Post USS Arizona Boat tours suspended 4/5/10-4/15/10

Heard about this today.
Just an FYI for folks hoping for the boat tour out to the Arizona.

From the National Park Service website:

For the safety of the visiting public there will be a temporary suspension of scheduled boat tours to the USS Arizona Memorial from April 5-14, 2010 due to construction near the boat dock.

Mods, please feel free to merge with an existing USS Arizona thread as appropriate.

Mahalo.

What does that even mean? I didn't notice anything unsafe about the 2 minute ride to the Memorial.

They are working on the brand new vistor center which sits about 50 feet from the boat launch.

I would be super pissed if I was there and was unable to go out there.

Just returned from 4 nights in Honolulu. We visited the Memorial complex, but they indeed were not ferrying visitors to the Arizona. The Bowfin (submarine) and the Missouri were open though and parts of the new visitor center were open as well. Looks like it will be very nice when done.

Luckily for me, I have been out to the Arizona, but still wish I could have paid my respects out there instead of just on the shore and looking from the Missouri.

Why? It's not all about YOU! From time to time, they must upgrade the facilities for the benefit of ALL. Unfortunately, that means causing minor inconvenience at times.

Agreed. But hopefully they recognize that as a major tourist attraction, they need to schedule these sorts of closings as far in advance as possible.

Judging by the OP, I have the impression that this one may have popped up with little/no warning.
