Interlining with CO

Yes, I read the FAQs :)

I just want to make sure I have this right..

I'm flying to HNL on CO with a connection to LIH on AQ. I've done this before, but the interisland leg was on HA so the baggage moved seamlessly from EWR to LIH and all made it there at the same time :)

From what I understand, I will have to show the CO agent in EWR my AQ boarding pass and/or confirmation number in order for the bags to be checked through.

Is that correct?

If the agent is unfamiliar, is there anything I should tell them to do?

You should be fine. Yes, you will have to show your AQ itinerary or locator number to the CO check-in agent in EWR. Any half-way competent agent will know how to interline your baggage. AQ is not my primary interisland resource, but I have had occasion to interline with them, and they were competent at this end. In one case, my bags made a 30 minute connection to ITO on AQ.

My only complaint with AQ's baggage arrangements is that every time I use them for interisland with HNL for a final destination, it seems to take them FOVEVER to cough up the bags onto the carousel. Mind you, I have only done that about four or five times, but it was like waiting for Christmas every time. On the upside, nearly every time I have come into ITO on AQ, my bags were already on the carousel by the time I walked down there.

I think you've got it covered. Sounds like you're pro at this. Have a great trip.

Done this many times! Just show CO agent your AQ reservation (boarding pass not necessary). My luggage sometimes showed up with my flights, and sometimes they went to Big Island when I landed in Maui. Just the usual when you check in your luggage. :D

Thank you everyone. We're already prepared with changes of clothes in the event our luggage decides it would rather go to some other island besides Kauai :)

BTW - my laptop once went to the BI when I was in Maui. I had UPS to thank for that one :)

White you don't need the boarding pass, you do need something show both the PNR, itin with flight #s, and the ticket number. That's one of the things that goes into the computer for successful interlining.

I don't have my itin/ticket at home, but I assume that the document UA emailed me for the AQ reward tickets includes a ticket number and all the information needed to get this done.

I'll check it and post tomorrow if I have any questions.

You can also just do OLCI and the ETKT # will be on the boarding passes as well. Even if the UA email does not include the ETKT #, if you have the AQ confirmation #, you can pull up the ressie on alohaair.com and find the ETKT # that way. Or, if worst comes to worst, you can always call AQ and ask for the ETKT #.

I just looked, and the document I have from UA has 2 ticket numbers on them, one for each of us.

I will do OLCI anyway to make sure the bag gets to LIH with us. Well, at least sometime near the time we get there :)

Thank you everyone!

You're not going to need a ball gown Mary! I'm going for two weeks and will not be checking a bag - a couple pairs of shorts, a couple shirts. What more will one need? :p

It's called camera equipment :) One of the rollaboards will be full of it (literally). We have to check a bag this time or mail it in advance.

If you "mail it", Fed Ex it, not USPS!
