Island Air

Island Air allows 50 pounds per person for checked bags, instead of the 50 pounds each bag. I don't think that we will exceed that but we could. Since there are five of us, it seems to make more sense to pay $54 per segment than $83 on Aloha, even if we have to pay a $20 to $40 overage in wt. Any opinions on Island Air? We will be flying from Lihue to Kahului.

Great views and a non-stop on Island Air. They fly Dash-8 type planes, so they're not jet engines, but if you're okay with that, the price difference, scenery and non-stop flight might be a good deal.

I love Island Air and their planes!

So much newer than Aloha's jets.

Fyi, IslandAir's website is currently showing $39 one way flights for some of its routes/flights.

There is also a possibility that if an Island Air plane is full, some luggage may be left behind to follow on a later flight.

I found the page in Special Offers that said that these flights exist, but I found no way of listing them, other than mindlessly plugging in departures, destinations, dates, and then picking flights to get fares. Is there any more efficient way to do this. For example, I am interested in flying from Kapalua to HNL in February.

Unfortunately, I haven't found a way either, except that on the page before the pricing page (the one with the flight listing) some are listed as "Web special" and it looks to me like the $39 ones are listed as "Super Web Special" or some such.

Inefficient, yes.

True, although I've certain seen the same thing happen on, say, United Express EMB140s between LAX/SFO and their California destinations (or they simply bump the pax).

But yes, that would be an annoyance in any case.

I can think of other words to describe it, but the moderators would wash my mouth out with soap. Since I'm actually on Maui now, I think I'll skip it and spend my time doing things that are more fun.

Actually, I believe the vBulletin software does it for us, leaving us with a clean bar of soap every time. :D

Highly recommend Island Air. Recently flew them HNL-JHM then OGG to ITO. Very helpful and friendly staff - plus flights at 8000 feet allow for great sight seeing.
