When did Hawaiin stop giving advantage points on there mainland flights?

They didn't. Certain classes of service (H and, i think, K) don't earn AA miles, but can still earn Hawaiian Miles. I don't know whether that has always been the case, or whether it started later.

Qualified booking classes for AAdvantage credit when ticketed on Hawaiian Airlines include: B,M,Q,V,W,Y in coach, and F,P in first class.

This is one place where Hawaiian plays games and I wish they'd stop. The average customer doesn't know this and you really can't book by fare code easily. Hawaiian's partners (Alaska and America West) seem to include all their flights when miles are awarded in reverse. Why can't Hawaiian just play fair here?

Because awarding points on other airlines costs money. Cheap fares don't give them profit to buy the points!

Well on the reverse side, Alaska will award Hawaiian miles on ANY Alaska fare, and I believe so will America West. This includes the bargain basement web fares....
