Haw'n Air Marks First Full Year of Profits (April-April)
Hawaiian Airlines marked its first ever full year of consecutive monthly operating profits with the court filing of its monthly operating report. The company recorded its best operating results ever for both the month of March and the first quarter of a year. “At a time when many airlines continue to struggle and report loss after loss, Hawaiian is thriving,” said Joshua Gotbaum, trustee for Hawaiian Airlines. “Hawaiian, always recognized for outstanding service, continues to be the nation’s most punctual airline, and one of the most profitable. But we are not resting on our laurels. With the launch next month of our Australia route, Hawaiian will bring its unique service to even more travelers.” For March, Hawaiian reported an operating profit of $9.5 million on revenue of $66.5 million. Hawaiian’s March operating results represent a year-over-year improvement of $10.3 million compared to an operating loss of $774,000 on revenue of $56.2 million for March 2003. The most significant area of improvement was in overall revenue, which increased by $10.3 million or 18 percent over March of last year, a reflection of Hawaiian’s continued ability to attract customers and meet strengthening consumer demand for travel to and within Hawaii. i don't know if they were paying the aircraft payments but I think the pay cuts from employees and saving they obtained from Ansett helped. One thing that I don't like is the Trustee is taking too much criedit for the profits and new routes. The new routes were planned when Adams was with the company and the profit is mostly from the saving in payroll and aircrafts leases. Without them, I think Hawaiian is not profitable.

For the third straight month, Hawaiian Airlines finished atop the airline industry for percentage of seats filled, posting an 83.4 percent Load Factor for scheduled systemwide operations in March. For the first quarter, Hawaiian posted an 82.1 percent Load Factor, which also tops the industry. Hawaiian today released its traffic statistics (see attached chart) for March and first quarter showing the airline continues to produce strong results with its scheduled flight service. The company also realized a big improvement in year-over-year Revenue Passenger Miles (RPMs), and solid growth in Available Seat Miles (ASMs), and number of passengers carried. “It’s exciting the way travelers are responding to our product during what is traditionally a slow travel period for Hawaii,” said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s president and chief operating officer. “We had a tremendous first quarter – our best ever – which is a tribute to our competitive fares, reliable on-time performance, and award-winning in-flight service. Plus, it helps to be the flagship carrier for one of the world’s most popular destinations.” |
