Anyone have experience flying Lanai Air to Lanai?

Anyone have experience flying Lanai Air to Lanai? Where did you travel from, how was your connection handled, and what was the flight like?

Thanks!

Flew them in August.
The flight was included w/ our stay at the Sensei Resort.
We live in HNL so we did not have a connection.
The experience is similar to what we experienced at other hotels w/ shared private charters like Amanpulo and The Brando.
Check in is at their private terminal off Lagoon drive. Parking is available for a fee next door at the Makani Kai Air terminal.
The "terminal" has about 3 rooms w/ a host. Drinks and snacks are available and served by the host.
When the flight is ready to board another host escorts you to the plane. It is open seating and I was surprised that they didnʻt need our weight or assign you a seat.
There are 2 pilots. The interior is very luxurious w/ plush leather seats and ample leg room. The flight itself was like any other single engine turboprop plane.
Upon arriving in Lanaʻi, a Mercedes bus or Tesla meets you plane side.
It was a great experience.

Mokuea , mahalo for the information and review.

How did you feel Lanai Air did with COVID mitigation procedures?

While OT for this thread, how was your view of Sensei with respect to COVID mitigation?

Mokuea Apr 2, 2021 11:21 pm

The only visible COVID measures w/ Lanaʻi Air were they seated all the parties in separate rooms while waiting for our flight and all the pax and pilots were required to wear masks.
Iʻm one of those that just assumes the plane is filthy so I double mask and wear a face shield and Clorox wipe my seat, seatbelt, and other touch points.

We surprisingly felt very safe at the Sensei Resort in terms of COVID. All the staff wore masks. All guests are given a mask upon check in and we were required to wear it at all times in public other than while eating. Temperatures were checked every time we entered the lobby. We were always able to be spaced out 2-3 tables away from anyone else in the restaurant. They are strict about wearing masks so when we got a massage it felt suffocating while lying face down. They have a protocol w/ cleaning rooms where I believe they wait hours before entering so our room wasnʻt ready early. But overall we felt very safe.

Mahalo for the information. Good to see these measures being adopted.

As a side note, we have the very same approach re self-protection measures. :)

We've done this twice now. Last time last February, right before the pandemic.

For incoming flights, there is someone to meet you at the plane, and they accompany you though luggage pickup to your car that drives you around the outside of the airport to the FSO. On our last trip, it took longer as Seatac's luggage system was down, so many bags - including mine - missed the plane. Previously it's really smooth.

On the return, it's the reverse, and they walk you though security if you want.

With the private transport on Lanai too, this whole service is *almost* a good deal. Often I can get cheap first class to HNL that adds $300+ each to connect to Lanai and that makes this only a little more money. (I guess I could buy the connection separately, but I'm a bit spoiled and can convince myself to use this service)

OP here, with my mini TR:

We dropped off our luggage at the Lanai Air "terminal," then parked at the Makani Kai lot a hundred or so yards away. The staff at the FBO were great.

We were the only passengers on the plane. The pilots wore masks until they were seated in their seats. No safety instructions were given, so that made us concerned with the safety-orientation of these pilots. The flight itself was uneventful. The air was still and it was the smoothest flight I ever took to Lanai.

We were met on the tarmac and brought to the hotel. Great way to start our vacation.

On the return trip, we were picked up at the hotel 30 minutes before our departure time and whisked aboard the plane 20 minutes later. We shared the cabin with another couple. Horrors! :) This time, the pilots did a full safety briefing.

For those who do park at the Makani Kai lot, be aware that that the way you pay for your parking is through the machine at the exit. I made the mistake of looking at the directions at eye level on the machine, which were not complete or accurate. Look at the directions at the bottom (just above the curb), where the accurate and complete instructions are given.

ETA: At the Sensei, they have stopped rigorous temperature checks of guests. Only time this happened to us was at checkin. They did not give us masks, but we obviously had our own. I was surprised that there were no obvious cleaning of public touch points during the day. I did see staff without masks on when they were in spots they did not expect to see guests.
