What happened to N594HA?
Took off from SJC yesterday, 2 hours late. Apparently had some sort of mechanical issue, and circled off Monterey for about 2-3 hours before returning to SJC.

CBS News is reporting that "a generator" failed, was replaced, and then failed again.

Then, today, the plane actually returned to the Boeing factory at PAE.

Perhaps a more serious issue than they originally thought?

On its way to HNL now, presumably empty:

Still absolutely no word on what was wrong with the plane.

This plane seriously has a lot of problems.
My parents were on this airframe, flying from OGG-SJC on August 8 (intended departure 11:33 am), when after they departed from the gate, the crew announced that there was a failure in the pressurization system, and that they'd have to fly a part in from HNL to fix the plane. Everyone deplaned and by the time the plane was fixed, it was around 4:30 pm. The crew then timed out, which required going to HNL to pick up another crew, which in turn required defueling the plane so it wouldn't be over MLW on landing. This process took until around 6:30 pm, when the plane departed for HNL instead of SJC, about 6 hours behind schedule. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/...427Z/PHOG/PHNL
The plane landed at HNL, at which point everyone had to deplane so that the crew could do their usual checks, and by the time they departed HNL, it was 9:15 pm, so they didn't arrive at SJC until 4:43 am. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/...715Z/PHNL/KSJC
For their trouble, everyone was only offered $100 vouchers for a 9+ hour delay. UA gave me more than that for the IFE being inoperable on my SFO-OGG flight earlier this month.

I do not have our plane number but back in August 2013 departing OGG for SJC we flew about 1.5 hours and had to turn around due to a generator issue. We diverted to HNL and deplaned. About 3 hours later we had a new plane. Landed at SJC around 1:30am. Had to contact HA for our vouchers. We were given $100 per.

Okay, what happened now? https://flightaware.com/live/flight/...435Z/KSMF/KOAK
Leaves SMF, gets about 300 miles or so out into the Pacific, turns around, dives to 10000', and returns to OAK.

This ship (N594HA) was scheduled to perform HA 45 & 46 today (9/30) but both flights were cancelled due to a mx issue. It appears as though this aircraft sat at SJC all day and never departed.
We were scheduled to be on 46 going back to SJC but ended up being rebooked by HA onto a AS flight to SJC due to this.
A couple of quick questions as this was my first HA cancellation and being rebooked on another airline by them.
1) Can I request original routing credit from HA to get my HA miles/segment for the AS flight?
2) We paid baggage fees at online check-in with HA ($25 for 2 bags). I get one bag for free as a HA MC holder. When we checked in with AS for the rebooked flight, they charged us their baggage fees ($25 per bag x 2 = $50). Will HA reimburse me what I paid to AS for the one bag I would have gotten for free with HA?
Thanks!

I would call customer service to get a refund for your baggage. Just make sure to have a receipt just in case they need proof. I would also ask them to reimburse you for your mileage. They might give it to you due to the cancellation, but I'm not so sure about this since you were rerouted on Alaska.
N594HA a B767-300 has been the pain to operate ever since Hawaiian received the aircraft from Delta in 2006. The maintenance issue it had in SJC was to fix a broken engine fan blade. This aircraft is currently 32yrs. old (Built in 1986) and the only one remaining in the fleet with GE CF6-80 engines. It was one of the first to be retired in February, but due to delays in the A321NEO deliveries it was reactivated in May after a C-check and will most likely be the last B767 to be retired in early 2019. It will be flying to our remaning B767 stations SJC and SMF with PHX unlikely to get this aircraft due to performance limitations.
Our remaining B767's are factory built in 2001, with our younger B767's having been already sold and sent to United (N588HA, N592HA, and N590HA). The only remaining older B767 other than N594HA is N583HA bought from German airline LTU and was originally built in 1992.

It's finally gone! So I guess this year, my parents don't have to worry so much about cancellations and their airframe breaking down. https://www.usatoday.com/story/trave...er/2511725002/
I'm really surprised that, even though N594HA was one of the 767s that gave HA the most problems, it ended up being the last to fly a revenue flight.

Not quite gone yet. It flew to SJC as HA44 today. HA43 coming back. There isn't much slack in the fleet with the current schedule, so it will probably be used as a spare until more A321neo's arrive.

Looks like it came back as HA44 yesterday SJC-HNL; the captain of the flight is a high school classmate.
