Will Hawaiian still charge for bags if I fly First?

Aloha! We are trying out a new IAD to KOA routing to take advantage of UA's nonstop service Saturdays from IAD to HNL and then going on to KOA on Hawaiian.
We are returning and are in HNL now, awaiting the United flight. Were bummed to find Hawaiian charged us for bags for the KOA-HNL leg. The folks at United Club said yes they do that, even though we get free UA bags by status and fare class and UA was the marketing and originating carrier for the whole itinerary. So if we booked booked FIRST on the Hawaiian segments next time, would they let us have rhe 2 free bags each FIRST pax get, or woukd they still charge us? I plan to call Hawaiian when I get home but thought people here might know.
Also when we checked in online with Hawaiian, they charged $20 for something. Anyone know what? Interline fee? Random because they have you fee?
