Earning miles on partner airlines for flights from mainland?

Hello,

In 3 days I'll be flying with my wife to a honeymoon in Hawaii with HA.
We're flying from and into JFK, and we have several inter island flights in Hawaii.
Since this is our first time flying with HA and we don't expect to fly again with them anytime soon, I don't see a reason to open a rewards account with them and have my miles just sit there until they expire.
I was hoping I could earn the miles on another program I use (I mostly fly with United and Delta) but it looks like both only earn miles on inter island flights and not flights from mainland. The same seems to be true about AA.

What would be the best way for me to actually get some value from these miles? Right now the best option seems like earning them with HA and then transferring to Hilton. Is there any other recommendation? Any option of redeeming miles to cashback or other miles is welcome.

thanks in advance!
