No risk at all. In fact, there are multiple HA Affiliate codes out there that give you the same 5% off mainland flights.
The one I use frequently is from the Arizona Aloha Festival:

I tried using the FLYOAKLAND code and am getting the same price with and without using the code. Am I doing something wrong? Is there anything special I need to do on the payment screen??

Use the link in post #3. Everyone is free to use it. HA has a booth at the annual Arizona Aloha Festival and gives out the code to anyone and it's been published on the website for years. I've used it several times for myself and family who live in PHX, SEA, and PDX without any problems.

The discount code I used was good for any USA HA flights other than inter-island. ( I never checked flights outside the US, so I can't report if itwould have worked on those.)
The code I found had been around a few years. If I find the link, I'll post it.

Just wanted to check, would it still be possible to collect partner miles (ie for Virgin Australia) with fares booked with this code?
Thanks .

Don't think you can earn miles:
Virgin Australia
Earn HawaiianMiles on all flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia. Make your reservation on www.virginaustralia.com. To earn HawaiianMiles, provide your HawaiianMiles number to the reservation agent or to the customer service agent when checking in.

The discount does not change the fare class. It's just 5% off of whatever fare you book. So, yes, if the fare class qualifies, you will earn miles on Virgin Australia.
