Question re: HA-UA interlining
Hey guys
I've tried to understand from the other topics and the HA website, but I can't get a clear answer... I figure experience will perhaps give me the best answer. I'm flying from KOA-HNL-EWR on 1 ticket (booked UA.com). KOA-HNL is on HA in Y, and HNL-EWR on UA in F. My bags are usually over 50lbs (I had to pay $50 on HA in F from JFK-HNL this year for it being 52lbs..), so I'm trying to figure the best option. Will HA charge me the inter island bag fare ($17) or the mainland bag fare ($25+)? Any other tips? |
Is this a one-way, or the return on a round-trip EWR-KOA ticket?
Your standard (not credit card or elite status-amended) baggage allowance will be stated on your UA ticket receipt. |

It's a one-way ticket (UA MP credit card). I'm flying F on the UA segment and have several free bags. I'm unsure as to why I get the $25 HA fee rather than the $17 inter island fee?

what does it say on your receipt?
You are checking in with HA, many people think they haven't implemented the rules correctly, but most likely you will end up paying HA's mainland bag fees. For that you won't have to reclaim/recheck/reclear security in HNL. Up to you if that's worth the $8 you think you would save by short-checking your bag, which is most likely not going to happen anyway if the flights are on the same ticket. However, YMMV, you'll find out. Either way it's not worth getting upset about. If you think they overcharged you or shouldn't be charging you, file a DOT bag fee complaint. -David |

You might get a nice agent who might just waive all fees. |
is the APTCO baggage calculator available online without subscription?

-David Mine requires a login only because my company has several accounts registered. |
