Well, I think Asian based FAs, man or woman, gay or straight are so much friendlier and more polite than US based FAs in general anyway.

Interesting post. If you guys get moved to F, maybe it's worth paying for your friend to fly along in the future. 2*Y < F in dollars.

My initiation to the MHC was back in 1980, Pan Am F, LAX-SYD on a 747SP. A F/A was my co-hort. I was 19.....and luckily had misconnected. My parents and I were to meet at LAX.....they took the flight we were all originally booked on....and I ended up on a later flight. It never would have happened if my parents had been on the same plane.

It was upstairs, back when the upper deck was still a bar. It was middle of the night....and most of the "adult" passengers were sacked out in their seats downstairs.

I have been able to renew my membership in the MNC several times since then, but my only other "special attention" from a F/A came during his layover ... coincidentally also in SYD.

If I'm alone I might receive slightly more attention from a gay male FA, but when I'm with my partner then we get quite a bit more attention. We've even gotten op-upped a few times because of it. ^

Generally I don't see many gay FAs on UA, at least ones that set off my gaydar on the routes I fly. There is one older gay male FA that regularly flies IAD-EZE; he's great! He usually works the C cabin, although when I don't get upgraded he comes back to visit me in E+ and wrinkles his nose at my surroundings. He'll sneak me some booze or dessert or whatever.

I don't but my B/F does...

My partner is a good looking guy in his 50's who spends his spare time at the gym and it shows. Me, not so much. Anyway, on LAN, the F/A in Business was being very nice to both of us and asking our plans etc. BF comments that I had to work two days during our vacation and the FA told him in Spanish that he would be happy to show my BF around Santiago while I was working.

I don't look it but I speak Spanish. I chimed in about what a delightful offer that was and WE would love to invite him for dinner in return. The guy looked like the classic deer in the headlights.

When he regained his composure, he sort of mumbled sure and got very busy in the galley.

The funny part is that I am not the jealous type at all, helped by the fact that I knew bf's interest in this guy was nonexistent. I almost felt bad.

I don't think I've ever posted this story, so here goes:

My long-time partner and I happened to make a trip out to San Francisco while the gay marriage stuff was going on. Just pure chance. We did swing by City Hall to take a look, but, given the long waits/appointment process, our lack of preparation and the likely legal invalidity of the marriages, we never even considered tying the knot then.

Anyway, we were returning on the AA redeye to JFK in coach. It was pretty full and since I had to go to work the next day, I was trying to get some sleep leaning my head on the shoulder of my (taller) partner.

This apparently gay (slightly older) FA was coming down the aisle with a drink cart. He had to stop right before us, but came back and got our drinks. Seemingly spontaneously, he asked my partner if he wanted any alcohol. My partner said no, and the FA asked again and made clear that it would be on the house. This, we thought, was odd. Later in the flight, he did something similar. It was clear from demeanor that it was not any sort of flirting.

The female FA that was working at the time swung by our seats later and asked us whether we'd gotten married. She was gay, too, it turned out, a SF resident and got married to her partner of many many years. [Thinking about this now, and those times, saddens me--the prize seemed so within reach, didn't it?] We admitted that we had not, and that we were just visiting friends in the bay area for the weekend.

We realized that the drinks, etc., must have been to congratulate us for getting married. I guess maybe around that time there were many gay New York couples flying to SF to get married. At the end of the flight, the same male FA, I guess uninformed by the other FA, asked us if we wanted to take a bottle of wine or champagne home with us. We declined, but didn't think it was necessary to set the record straight.

For some reason, I am so scared to make it apparent that I am GAY to gay flight attendants. I guess I dont really know how to show it but ill try bringing a GQ magazine or something. Do gay gate agents every upgrade people they find cute? Well then how do they know if the guy is family?

So much to learn... (so that i get freebies)

What scares you? Do you think you'll be forced to discuss broadway shows the whole flight?

As in, I am scared of the possible outcome or reaction from the FA/GA by hinting that I'm family. It looks like a lot of people have had decent experiences with FA/GAs but what if they react like, "uh, so?" Wouldn't that be embarrassing?

Just turn on your gaydar. Most GAs/FAs will hvae theirs activated, even when they're working and can't do much about it. Having a magazine is a pretty indirect way of going about it, unless the magazine is OUT or The Advocate; plus, it will send the same signal to anyone else who's looking and smart enough to pick up on it. A lingering look in the eyes--straight guys don't look other straight guys in the eyes for long--and a crack of friendly smile if necessary is usually enough to do it.

I had a surprising and nice experience two weeks ago in Bangkok that fits nicely into the topic of this thread. While waiting in the gate area for a Korean Air flight to Seoul, I went up to the desk and asked whether I had a window seat or not. One of the GAs had a look and after consulting with his colleagues was able to confirm the window seat. As I walked away, he looked at me in that are-you-a-homo-'cause-if-you-are-I'm-checking-you-out kind of way. Cute Thai guy, though a little tall for my type. A few more smiles across the gate area, then time for boarding. He collected my BP as I boarded, and he'd seen it before, so he knew what seat I was in. I figured, that was that. To my great suprise, 15 minutes into boarding, he came on the plane and slipped me a note. He introduced himself and gave me his email address to get in touch the next time I'm in Thailand. I told him when I'd be back and gave him my email. His little note was adorable. He called himself a "Ground Hostess" for TG (Thai Airways). We've exchanged emails since and he'll greet my flight when I arrive in Bangkok a week from Sunday with Mr. Megatop. Not fishing for upgrades or anything, and I had already been upgraded on that outbound flight, but nice to be cruised nevertheless.

Auracon: You've surely had scores of GGG pax cruising you at the KE check-in desk at ORD. Just cruise back. I've had it happen lots of times in various places, sometimes initiated by the GA or FA and sometimes by me. If he ignores your cruising or non-cruising friendly smile, like a few Singapore boys have done to me, then no harm/no foul. They probably don't even realize they're being cruised.

My most favorite airline story is on comment in this thread:

I was in a fairly empty J-cabin flying MIA-GRU. I was in the last row, when around 90 minutes before landing a guy came up from coach and stood next to my set of two seats (I was in the window and thankfully had a bag in the aisle seat or he might have sat down) and started to talk. He was at least twice my age (I'm 23) so I was a bit uneasy since I'm not used to a guy flirting with me on an airplane, especially given the "don't cross between cabins" rule. At any rate, I tried to be nice and after around 2 minutes he gave me a sheet of paper with his name and hotel info before returning to his seat. He had a wedding ring and asked questions without ever answering mine - made me a little uncomfortable.

The gay F/A came up to me and said, "Hey, if that guy isn't your type, I can make an annoucment about staying in your ticketed cabin." I told him thanks but not to worry.

Around 45 minutes before landing, that F/A made the announcement, then came up to me and said, "That was a pre-emptive strike. He was coming back toward Business. You can do better" and he winked.

Hmm, interesting. Maybe I am just not really.. the material? When I was an agent for KE at ORD, I really upheld being nice to pax because of a simple reason: it sucks to get an unhappy agent @ check in/gate/on board. It's a long flight, 13 hours or so, and I should at least be a positive component to it rather than having the person start with a miserable experience. I think I tried to be nice to every pax, but there were times that the guy standing in front of me definitely got my attention and definitely looked at him more than I needed to but I was never successful. Plus most people I dealt with were....... really strict looking Korean gentlemen.

But on the other hand............................ the TSA guy that used to scan bags in front of KE checkin.......... hahaha, this is not related to this thread and is another story

Yup, on a recent SFO-LAX flight the FA refilled my gourmet supreme mix 2x and my wine 4x.
