Ok- Who's going to Folsom?

Its a little less than 2 weeks away for me to go back to San Francisco for my vacation. Which I set up conveintly around the Folsom Street Fair on Sept 25th.

So, anyone from here heading to Folsom? For that matter to any of the parties surrounding it? I arrive on 9/21, leave the 28th. Staying in an apt that is an "offshoot" of a B&B located in the Castro.

Figured its soon enough to get this thread going.

I used to live out in San Francisco and had enough of Folsom. It is just too nasty for me. I prefer the more sanitized circuit events....like Gay Disney.

As it happens, I'll be there for part of that weekend but not all of it. I'm going by and large on a mileage run ex-ATL. I'll come in Friday night and depart Sunday afternoon before, I'm told, the real raunch begins. Will definitely go to one of the events Saturday night, though not sure which one.

Sadly not attending this year. Perhaps a Raunchy DO next year though!

I Will

I will be there. I have been to the Dore Alley Fair in July many times, but this will be my first trip to Folsom. Should be interesting, to say the least.

I do plan to go, but UA is offering unreasonably expensive ticket, over $400 for ORD-SFO, that is for a W class fare, even for 5 weeks in advance purchase.

Missing Folsom

Although I live about 100 meters from the main stage at 7th and Folsom, I unfortunately will be out of town, otherwise would host you guys for at least a drink. Sorry. Do come. It is nuts, is overcrowded, and has become relatively more 'mainstream.' But it is still one of our city's great events, and should be seen and experienced by all.

Have fun!

The hubby and I will be there.. arriving on UA Saturday, leaving Monday. We alternate FSF and CSF every other year.

A Free Historical Walking Tour / Reservations Required
> A Tour of South of Market Gay Sex Cultures of the 1970s
>
> This free, historical walking tour is meant to bring together
> surviving veterans of the South of Market sex scene from the
> 1971-1984 era with newcomers interested in learning about the bars,
> sex clubs, bathhouses, alleys, and other sites in the South of
> Market area where gay men congregated during this era.
>
> While a special focus will be placed on the emerging leather
> culture of the era, we will also visit and discuss spaces where
> hippie/longhair/counterculture gay men congregated, as well as
> dance clubs of the period.
>
> The tour will be led by Eric Rofes, long-time gay activist and
> author who is writing a book about gay men's cultures in the United
> States during the 1973-1984 era. He has gathered many oral
> histories of gay men from this era and the tour will be used to
> share men's memories of these spaces and gather additional stories
> as the neighborhood continues to undergo profound economic,
> architectural, social, and cultural changes.
>
> If you have memories of the No Name Bar, the Brig, Boot Camp, the
> Black and Blue, Ringold Alley, the EndUp, the Ambush, the Arena,
> 8th and Howard Baths, the Stud, the Cauldron, Handball Express, Big
> Town, the Barracks, and the Slot--or other places of this era--
> please join in! If you have always wondered about pre-AIDS South
> of Market scene, please come along! The tour is for veterans and
> newcomers alike; people of all genders and sexual orientations are
> welcome. Please spread the word and tell your friends.
>
> The tour will consist of visits to many of these sites. At each
> site we will review accounts recorded in the tour guidebook and
> then hear from people on the tour who have additional memories to
> share.
>
> The tour will begin at 6:00 p.m. sharp on Monday September 19th and
> the corner of 9th and Folsom. The tour is endorsed by The 15
> Association. Tour-goers may opt to go to dinner afterwards to
> continue discussion of the era. While the tour is free,
> reservations are required. Please send your name, phone number,
> and email address to [email protected] or call (415) 255-6210

I'll be attending this. Due to overwhelming demand, there will be a 1pm tour Saturday afternoon the 24th. I plan on going to that and then after the tour heading to "Butter" for the Boot Party- then my "disco nap" for Magnitude.

Seeksreal Sep 13, 2005 7:27 am

I am going. I'm thinking about driving up from LA Friday and back Sunday night after the fair. I'll have room in the car if someone wants to come along for the ride. I've been to both Folsom and Dore at least 5 times. Although Dore Alley is usually more interesting, I always enjoy Folsom as well.

DavidDTW Sep 13, 2005 10:49 am

I will also be at Folsom this year. Going with a friend who has never attended and not really into the leather scene, so this should be interesting. Arrive on Saturday and leave Monday.

bo94114 Sep 13, 2005 2:00 pm

Hubby and I will be there with bells on (not literally!). Travel by god awful Muni (sans miles or upgrade opportunities). Ta

ecaarch Sep 14, 2005 7:32 am

I'll be there. Arrive in SFO Friday night and leave Monday afternoon. Not exactly sure what to expect, but hey, I'll find out soon enough.

RichLond Sep 14, 2005 12:30 pm

Just booked my trip today. A 250usd r/t fare from IAD using the 10percent coupons UA passed out a few weeks ago made this an easy choice.

Arrive Friday and Leave Sunday. Probably end up at magnitude on sat night.

Anyone use priceline to secure their room? Any hints on what you needed to bid. Posts in BFT indicate 95usd is the going rate and gets the Marriott?
