Puerto Vallarta questions?

had a plane ticket I need to use and VERY little time but I'm gonna make the best of it. I'll be going to PV this weekend (august 6-7) Staying at the Hotel Mercurio (I think that's the name) Any thoughts on what (good or bad) to look out for at the hotel or any thoughts on the gay sauna/nightlife in PV? I'm there for 24 hours so I want to maximize my experience. Thanks. for referenc: gay male here and pretty decently conversational to mildly fluent in Spanish. Thanks.

Nice little hotel, cannot beat the location. Just a few blocks from the gay beach, and Vallarta Cora, a bar/hotel/semi bathhouse. Tons of gay bars, but being off season they probably wont be as busy as it is during season. Everywhere is gay friendly. Being conversational in Spanish is a big plus, as this time of year there are a lot of locals from Guadalajara and Mexico City.

It will be VERY hot and humid, with some rainstorms maybe. Have a great time, it is my favorite town to visit.

How does Vallarta Cora "work"? Like any other bathhouse?

Not really. There's a pool in the center of the hotel and a bar. Men hang out in bathing suits, not towels. Any action is limited to a few hours a day.

Alas, The Cora is gone. Sold off to condo developers this summer

Really? Shame.

It'd be nice if the MODs corrected the title of this tread.

IT is Puerto VALLARTA (not villarta)

As for the original question.

I found the gay nightlife in PV to be much escort-oriented.
And then the tourists there (US/CANADA) were all friendly but much interested (or obsessed) in the for pay local boys.

Weather, scenery and dining can be awesome though.

How so?

What I said.
It was my impression regarding gay night life. At least based on what I saw at blue chairs and few other bars.
Feel free to disagree. It was MY impression.

You keep it very vague. How do you know it was escort-oriented? Did someone approach you with a proposal involving money?
Did you see people exchange money/favors at Blue Chairs?

Ok. Blue Chairs bar.

You go there, there is loud music and perhaps an announcer.
All seats are oriented towards the main stage.
There is little talking among the patrons.
Most of the attention is on the strippers or dancers.
The strippers approach the tables and give lap dances in exchange of money, perhaps they let you touch some.
Then keep drinking.
Then another stripper comes out.
And the night goes on.

That is not the kind of fun bar I am used to, and it gets old for me since I find absolutely no fun in putting a dollar bill (or pesos bill) on someone's tight speedos. It seemed to me that most of the blue chairs patrons were just there drooling at the boys.

Ok, I may have gone too far in calling them all rent boys. I know for a fact that a few them offered sex for pay in the premises or in your room to some of my friends (not sure who asked first, but the transaction was executed).

Perhaps I over exaggerated but my description of blue chairs above is what I found in most gay bars in PV.

Cheers,

Carlos Lochte.

OK, I see what you mean. The stripper-bar is not my thing either.

Yes there are a few strip clubs and bars with strippers, but I wouldn't say nightlife is escort- oriented. I've been to PV 3 times, most recently in January, and don't like strippers and have never paid for sex. And had a lovely time. There are many bars with no strippers.

I like PV in general, not the GAY nightlife, but perhaps I've been missing on the good gay nightlife spots.

Which are nice GAY bars free of stripper oriented fun?

Blondie's doesn't have any that I know of.
Others that may have a stripper or gogo, but I've not found them "oriented" around strippers. The roof of La Noche is lovely and fun. Paco's has a fun drag show. There are tons of cabaret shows.
Everyone's idea of a "nice GAY bar" is different.
