Reykjavik nightlife

Ok, I may not be able to appropriately spell the name of the town, but does anybody know what the gay scene is like in Reykjavik (?) Can't seem to find too much online. If it matters:
1) I'm a gay male
2) probably going in September

thanks. (PS, whew, thank goodness for spell check!) LOL

went to Iceland last May, based ourselves in Reykjavík for 3 nights. There isn't much to the "scene." Kiki Queer Bar is probably the go-to, right on Laugavegur (the main walking street in Reykjavík). Nifty little bar, I think it was 3 floors maybe? Be warned that nightlife doesn't get "busy" until pretty late- like, 130am or later. We went around 1130pm on the weekend and it was dead. But once it does get busy, they party until the wee hours. The staff pulls black-out curtains over the windows to keep out the sunlight (which we never really got used to).

Also, like everything else in Iceland, drinking is unconscionably expensive. Expect to pay $10 and up for a beer (basic, bottle of cheap domestic beer...not even a 16oz draft pilzner). No Icelander leaves the KEF airport without getting something at duty free, because they all pre-game before going out. You pretty much have to!

But yet Iceland just topped the Gay Happiness Index!

Standard kind of Scandinavian approach for those using the largest Scandinavian airports on the European mainland.

Howdy,
Curious if anyone has more recent experiences on Reykjavik nightlife? I will be there in July. Thanks!

Uganda is at the bottom? That's shocking!

I'm not buying this gay happiness index. I haven't been to Iceland, but I have been to Norway, which is ranked number 2, and I know I would not be happy there.
The gay nightlife in Norway is very disappointing. (and probably not part of the index.)
Not even close to Barcelona, Paris or Berlin.

The index is based on how residents measure their own happiness in three criteria:
Public Opinion: How do gay men feel about society’s view on homosexuality?
Public Behavior: How do gay men experience the way they are treated by other people?
Life Satisfaction: How satisfied are gay men with their lives and do they accept themselves?

There really isn't much LGBT specific nightlife in Iceland. Basically, there's one bar, called Kiki. Its open Wednesday - Saturday and has a few locals and tourists in it. Drinks are expensive (like everywhere else in Iceland). There is also a Gay friendly place called Bravo, and it is open every day, but it is pretty much a 'sit down' place where it might be a bit difficult for solo travelers to meet others. Iceland is wonderful, but there's really not much LGBT nightlife. You go there to see the wonderful scenery (much of which is outside of Reykjavik). Go to Iceland, but don't expect Berlin quality nightlife. And bring a group with you. Rent a car, drive around the island, do some hikes.

Reykjavic is also one of the most expensive cities in the world.
A colleague of mine just came back from there. She got a dirt cheap fare on WOW Air from LAX but she said that the "hype" is true, once there, everything is really expensive.
Converted to USD approximately... McDonalds Combo close to $20, bottled water $5, etc.
Just something to keep in mind and budget for.

I wouldn't go out of my way to visit it but Reykjavic has the only penis museum in the world, in case you are interested.

Swimming pools are a thing in Iceland. I've heard some of them can be cruisy.

The ranking is for gay happiness, not gay nightlife (two completely different things).

to each his own, but I didn't think Barcelona gay nightlife was that great (too clique-ish, hard to meet locals). I've been to Paris many times and I don't think the gay nightlife is that great either, it consists mainly of bars with darkrooms and saunas (not that I have not enjoyed those multiple times).

Sigh, I give up.
Last time I post in a thread with a question about its stated topic as opposed to a random link in it about a ranking that's three years old.

The reason being is that there is nothing really exciting that anybody can comment on Iceland in terms of gay nightlife (Silent hints).
+1 to Tom's post.
And it really is expensive.
Go for a swim, go the penis museum, go for hike, get on scruff.
Have fun!
