Changing planes in Frankfurt

hi - hope I can be reassured I'll make it! flying from us to berlin, changing in frankfurt. only have 1-1/2 hour inbetween - changing from usairways to lufthansia. will I make it? will I need to go to customs or immigration? can I get from one airline to another?? thanks!!!!

This should be moved to the connection thread either in the Germany forum or in the Lufthansa forum.

If this is on one ticket, it's usually no problem if plane is on time. Make sure agent checks your bags in the US to Berlin so that you don't have to recheck them in Frankfurt. This is possible in Europe!

Immigration has to be done in Frankfurt which will usually not take that long (not comparable to US standards) and customs for hand luggage is in Frankfurt as well (not a big deal either unless you are smuggling something ;) ), customs for checked bags is in Berlin.

Have a safe trip.

Welcome to FT!

I cannot provide any insight on whether you need to pick up your bags and re-check, but having done a 90 minute connection in Frankfurt (LH to UA) many times, I can tell you it is doable as long as you do not stop and look at stores, as depending on the position of the gates it can take upwards of 30 minutes to get from one to the other. Have a safe trip.

no worries as it happens to the best of us :)

i've sent a request via the "report bad post"* icon (the little red triangle with an exclamation point located in the lower left of each post) and one of the moderators will then get the message and should move this over to the germany forum for you. :)

*report bad post can be used for inappropriate "behavior" ;) but also for a post/thread made/started in the wrong forum (and like i said, it happens to all of us :))

@Kittles

90 mins is ok !
But it´s advisable to have it all on one ticket ! If so your transfer will be a total no-brainer because even if your inbound to FRA is late and you miss the FRA- Berlin (TXL) Lufthansa will rebook you to the next flight (LH runs a "shuttle-like" service between FRA and TXL with flights leaving in roughly hourly intervals)

If both flights are on separate tickets i´d say its still doable but without great margin...

MHG's post just reminded me of something. OP says he/she is travelling US Airways to FRA and then LH onwards. While your bags will be checked through to your final destination, you will need to pick up a new BP in FRA. Do NOT go to the transfer desk as we did two years ago and burned 70 minutes. Either go directly to your gate or as you are going through the terminal you will see service desks where you can get a BP. Good luck!

Why can't US check him in also for the LH flight? In that case I'd online check in with LH which is possible within 23h of flight.

At the gate for the LH flight, show them your BP and ask if they have loaded your luggage on the second flight. This information is usually connected to your BP...

US often won't issue a boarding pass for LH flights. I don't know why this is, being a Star Alliance flight, but I've had this happen more than once. US will, however, tag the luggage all the way through. Then you can do one of two things in FRA...

Go to a connections desk and have the agent issue a BP and associate it with your luggage receipt or check in online and marry it up at the gate. I've done it at the gate but the agent made me stand to the side and wait until they've boarded all other pax so she could concentrate fully on marrying my bag check number to my BP, so if you want overhead bin space, better do it before showing up at the gate

Just one warning about FRA - no matter how many times I use that airport I still can't figure it out. It's not like I'm directionally challenged; FRA is just set up to confuse.

Maybe it's a security thing.
