Mid-range Munich Hotel

I'll be in Munich for one night (July 30-31). I've been to Munich before but didn't really get to explore it. Was looking for a mid-range hotel that should be clean and have A/C in a location near Marienplatz? I'm not too picky. Of course some charm or breakfast would be nice, but I plan on spending most of the day wandering around and trying out different brauhauses.

I've heard of Hotel am Viktualienmarkt and Blauer Bock. Any other ideas?

I've done a search and most results turn up the Hilton, le Meridien, Mariott, and the Mandarin I think.

Of course any suggestions on things to do would be nice but there are plenty of other threads dedicated to that.

Thanks.

Did you ever try and do a search with www.hrs.com?

This is ALWAYS the site I check out hotels first!

Check the Courtyard City Centre, it's one train stop beyond Marienplatz about 2 blocks from Hauptbahnhof (some notes at Marriott forum here)

Not really mid-range, isn't it?! ;)

If you don't care for miles&points it might be the best choice to choose a small and privately owned hotel.

Examples:

http://www.hotel-schlicker.de (87€/Night, at least two "Brauhäuser" that I know in the area)

http://www.hotel-deutsches-theater.com/ (65€)

hrs.de was named before, but I would also check hotel.de and priceline.

Good luck :)

LG Jonathan

Never heard of it, but checking into it now.

Thanks to everyone for the hints.

One last thing.. anyone accept early check-in? I get into MUC at 5:30AM. Assuming de-planing, getting my bags, taking the train into town etc, I'm thinking I would get into the hotel around 8AM...

If they don't do early check-in, leave your bags at hotel, and go for breakfast/lunch/brunch somewhere, take a walk and enjoy the scenery, then check in. That's what I do in Munchen!

While not really mid-range, I like this hotel too. 45 min from the airport by S-Bahn and convenient to just about everything else.

+2

I don't need 'local character' and appreciate the comfort and location.

Thank you all for the tips and hints. I got the Kings Court Center hotel for $65 + taxes ($83 all in) from Priceline.

I can't wait to explore Munich even if only for 24 hours. That being said, any brauhauses that one specifically reccomends? I'm going to be travelling alone, so something social, yet not filled with foreigners might be nice... I'll be walking around quite a bit and most definitely asking lovely Bavarian women for directions :D

I will be look up all of the threads "Munich in one day" as well as checking wikitravel and LP forums, but FT is usually the best and most personable site there is for advice...

then leave out the "Hofbräuhaus", that's the place where most tourists go first.

I personally prefer the "Weisses Brauhaus im Tal" that is located directly in the center, only a couple of minutes away from "Marienplatz" (walk).
