Birthday-dinner in Munich

I've done a search, but it didn't yield much - there was one discussion on which restaurant to go to, but I'm looking for a bit of a nicer experience.

My father is turning 65, so we are having Champagne Breakfast with friends and family in our apartment. But dinner is still open for discussion - and I want to take him and the rest of the family somewhere nice.

Price really isn't a concern
Prefer a place that isn't snobby - service should be good
Local specialities are preferred - not looking for french cuisine
Located in or around Munich
An intimate environment is a plus (i.e. nothing too huge)

Are there any ideas? The last time I was in Munich I chose places from the LV Guide - wasn't disappointed (but I can't find the guide anymore).

I love this restaurant:
http://www.landersdorferundinnerhofer.de/

It's a fine dining place, but the decor and ambiance are rather plain and normal.
They don't have a dinner menu, it's all "surprise". They ask you if you have any aversions or allergies, then they keep you bringing food. It's about 8 courses, but they don't rush your at all. It's perfect for a good time: you eat, drink, talk, then eat some more...
They ask if you are ready for the next course, and what kind of "protein" it's going to be. You may choose to skip it, or get an optional dish. Between the seafood/poultry courses and the red meat courses, you get an unbelievably delicious basil sorbet.
The downside is that it doesn't open on weekends. It's downtown (Marienplatz area), maybe that's why.

That looks quite nice, actually! Do you remember how much dinner is? No prices are displayed on the website (perhaps there is a good reason for that ;-))

It's really not that expensive. You made me look for my old credit card statements: we paid 120ish Euros per person with wine pairing.
Maybe the fact that they serve pretty much the same food for everyone on a given day, the costs go down, as opposed to the personalized "a la carte".

Of course, there are many other good restaurants in Munich, but they wouldn't fit your specifications: not "Schicki-Micki" (local slang for "fancy"), not French, etc.

We celebrated a birthday at Austernkeller & it was quite fun and delicious and I believe a long the lines of what you are looking for.

Thanks for checking up on that!

120 Euros really isn't that bad...

Will they be able to handle requests such as:

- No seafood (my mother)?
- No meat except beef and chicken (myself)?

(I know - chef's *love* us... :D)

Second, it is pretty good.

Pst, szg, I won't tell anybody that you get 20% commission for each guest that you have sent there ;)

The Seehaus in the English Garden is pretty good as well, nice scenery!
