Ulm and Hohenschwangau

We will be sight seeing in these two cities on different days this June. Can anyone recommend a reasonably nice place for lunch featuring local fare? The day we are in Hohenschwangau we will be traveling from ad then back to Garmisch. Since we will be driving via Austria going one way and thru Germany the other, a recommendation on either side of the border would be fine. In my best of all worlds lunch in Ulm would overlook the Donau.

thanks,
Greg

For lunch in Ulm, the Maritim Hotel has a Restaurant on the top level (Panorama). But it is only open between 6pm and 11pm (daily). I had dinner there some time ago ... was quite ok and the view was marvellous.

Enjoy!

I like the restaurant in the Hotel Müller in Hohenschwangau. It's very near the building where tickets are sold for the Neuschwanstein tour.

hi,

as i grew up in austria - just a few miles from hohenschwangau here are two recommendations from my side.

soyers sennerland in Höfen

Gutshof zum Schluxen in Pinswang

both restaurants offer a variety of local tyrolean food.

btw, when you drive from garmisch to hohenschwangau, i would consider the route via ettal and lake plansee instead of going via ehrwald/lermoos. this way you also pass castle linderhof (which is the third castle built by King Ludwig)

yes, definitely that route!!! I drive that way as often as I can. The last snowfall was just melting around Linderhof about a week ago, thankfully. It is one of my favourite places to go for a walk out of season. (It was an early snowfall in late Oct this winter, and a late snowfall in April)

Linderhof is about 9km off the road from Ettal. It is my favourite of Ludwig's castles, and most often overlooked in favour of Neuschwanstein or Herrenchiemsee.
