Hotel Dusseldorf
I am going to Dusseldorf in early May (1st-4th). After some research my hotel choices has been narrowed down to the following:
Radissonsas Scandinavia Hotel Radissonsas Media Harbour Four Points by Sheraton I can get rooms for 100 Euro on all of the hotels. Which one would you have chosen for a city break? Which one is easiest to reach by train from the Airport? Any reason I should choose another hotel? Budget approx 100 Euro/night. |
I've stayed at the Four Points in DUS. The rooms are fairly small but the bed / shower were very nice. The view isn't great. It was within walking distance from the Hbf.

The hotel closest to the airport is probably the SAS Scandinavia. However, it is not linked by train but linked by bus (or 10 Euro taxi). It is more or less in the middle of nowhere but only about 5 stops on the subway to the City Center (subway U78/79 = tram in front of the hotel). The SAS Media Harbour is in a location similar to (a small) Canary Wharf in London. It is a bit outside the city center (about 7 Euro by taxi or 2 Euro by bus or 15 to 20 minutes walking). The Four Point is in walking distance to to the station and five minutes walking for the shopping area. Good breakfast included, good if you have status with SPG. However, not the nicest hotel if you do not have any status with Starwood. If they sell you a single room, they mean a single room: Pretty small.
You might wish to check on HRS.DE for rates. Some proposals well within your budget. Two of these you certainly would not pick yourself: The IBIS Duesseldorf Centrum or IBIS Duesseldorf Hauptbahnhof can be booked on HRS.DE. Both properties are IBIS, nothing else and nothing special but very close (100 Meters) to the Central station and available for 60 or 69 Euro. Lindner Rhein Residence offers absolutely great value for money with 66,50 per night (on the same subway line U78/79 as SAS Scandinava, but closer to city, two stops). It is in a local shopping area with supermarkets and plenty of food outlets. Lindner is a Duesseldorf chain, on there Website www.lindner.de you have availability for 226 prepaid and 266 flexible One of my personal favorites is Ashley's Garden which is 99 incl. breakfast located in a calm private neighborhood (not a lot else around) very close to the Rhine, however again only a few (= five at the utmost) minutes from the subway stop (U78/79) three stops more to the city center than the SAS Scandinavia. |
I would go for the Four Points (Stay Reports). It's near Königsallee, while the two Radissons are not that close. The Radisson Scandinavia has a tram stop infront of the hotel and it's a seven minutes ride to the stop Steinstraße / Königsallee (U79/U78).
The Radisson Medienhafen is the one further away, but the newest of the three hotels. It's in the Medienhafen area and you could walk into town (30 minutes) along banks of river Rhine. But it's not that good connected to the city center. The Lindner Rhein Residence a recommended by Flying Lawyer is nice (subway to Nordstraße or Klever Straße than walk). I pass it quite often during my lunch break and yes it's a nice place with a lot of local people around. I know both IBIS, I would go for the IBIS Zentrum. It's a bit quieter than the one in the Main station and only 300 metres away. Though the bathrooms are somehow small, it's a good place to sleep. If you want to stay (or have to work) in your room, I would not take it. |

When I stayed at the 4 Points, it reminded me a lot of staying in an Intercity Hotel room. Small but functional and comfortable. I would not recommend it for a long stay or if you were going to spend a lot of time in the room, but the bed certainly fit the bill. Granted, I have no status with Starwood, so I didn't get an upgrade.
I know Hilton has a property in DUS. Have you checked them out with your dates? I've had only good experiences with the mainland Europe Hiltons. |

Fwiw Holiday Inn has a full-service property about 10 minutes from DUS. The address is actually in Ratingen, but they have a contract with a private shuttle company to deliver pax to/from the airport at no charge to the pax.
I don't know if their summer rates are higher, but I stayed there quite recently for 55 Euro per night. (Breakfast not included at that price.) |

I used to work across from that Holiday Inn. Somehow, I would not recommend it.

I really can't recommend this hotel ... it's far away from the city centre.

If you are not addicted to one of the international chains, Lindner RheinResidence would be the place to go. This is a real four star in a good location for 65 Euro per night.
The free breakfast is the real kicker, especially in the UK, when Hilton wants to charge over 15 pounds for it normally. I can only imagine a family of four going down to breakfast with no status. However, you are right regarding the charming, often cheaper places in better locations. |
Thank you for all the suggestions. I have booked a comfort room at the 4P in the city center, except for the first night because of the rate. First night will be spent at Sheraton at the airport (will arrive 8 pm so does not care). I got an executive room. Is breakfast included for executive rooms? Have much do they charge for breakfast if it si not?
I am only spg gold, could I except anything at 4P? |

I am only spg gold, could I except anything at 4P? Usually the breakfast is not incl. at the Airport Sheraton. It's 23 EUR / person (btw imo not worth it). Have breakfast in one of the cafes in the city. I suggest you check out at the airport, try to check in at the 4P or at least store you luggage and then look for a cafe. |
Did anybody check out the new hotel (I think it's a LeMeridien) at the airport yet? I saw it the other day flying into DUS but had no time to stop and actually find out more about it.
