Weekend trip from Munich
I have some meetings for work in Munich on a Friday and the following Monday at the end of Feb. I am planning on taking my wife and we would like to take a trip out of Munich that is not too long. Maybe a train ride into the alps. Any suggestions? Any sites that offer weekend packages? Thanks in advance.

A trip into the Alps? Sure - why not. You can go to Salzburg / Berchtesgaden, or in the Innsbruck area which are both nearby and easy to get to (if the weather is not too bad). Almost all hotels will offer a special price for weekenders but donīt expect them to be really cheap - this is high season in the ski-regions. If you are not intersted in snow or skiing, Iīd go to Salzburg wich offers some cultural highlights too (everything you ever wanted to know about Mozart) or consider the Lake Constance region. |

The general correct answer for American newbies is either Salzburg or Neuschwanstein. Both destinations are easy to reach from Munich and offer a lot to tell your friends at home about. |
I know a fairly broad question
We have lived in Europe for a few years and have been to Munich a bunch of times. The idea started off with, lets just head to the Alps and enjoy the outdoors and a quiet weekend. We have gone to Spitingzee (I am sure I am spelling it wrong, where Starwood has a property) a few times.
We were not planning on getting a car so the idea was to take a train somewhere not too far away and enjoy the weekend. |

But once again: Salzburg / Berchtesgaden will be a great choice for a weekend getaway. |
How funny, I'm heading there next weekend for a weekend getaway too, only my fiance will not be attending. I'll be following this thread closely as I'm looking for things to do.

I vote Garmish-P and Zugspitze http://www.zugspitze.de/main_en.php
Garmish-P is a sweet town and Zugspitze is awesome even for non-skiers. |

Other suggestions for things to do while there appreciated. I will be arriving to MUC at 7:35am and hope to checkin to hotel and then get to the train station in time to catch the 9:32 train to Garmisch. |
If you like museums, especially car museums:
http://www.museum-mercedes-benz.com/ It is located in Stuttgart, roundabout 2 1/2 hours from munich. |
