Chocolate shops in Munich
Anyone know of a high end shop with house-made chocolates in Munich? I'm already familiar with Confisirie Rottenhofer and Dallmayr.

I'm not 100% certain, but I feel like I remember seeing a high-end chocolatier in one of the buildings that faces the Viktualien Markt. Good luck.

Thanks, but I'm not looking for a shop that carries brands made somewhere else. I'm looking for high-end housemade chocolates, preferably, one-off shops. The Franz shop looks very promising.

Make sure that you try their Baumkuchen - it's the best I've ever found. And they ship overseas - I always order a large box of different things for Christmas. Audrey |
Several around Viktualplatz. Will get addresses and post them.

I can recommend http://www.stolberg-muenchen.de/laden.html! The owner (Mr. Stolberg) is definitly the guy to talk to when it comes to chocolate. The shop is located in the very city center about 1 Min walk from the Hofbräuhaus in the Ledererstraße. Have a look at the website. For a map click on "Anfahrt".

and apart from stolberg, check out sama sama http://www.sama-sama.de/sama_sama.html , 2 mins walking from viktualienmarkt. no brands, just home made. |
Thanks for all the great suggestions. Unfortunately, I returned from my MUC trip before I saw them. However, my next trip will probably be in March and I can't wait to start my taste tests.:D

Probably one of the very best in the World: Amai Prelines from Feinstein: amainet.com with two locations:
1-Fraeunstrasse 2: 24219859 2-Makplatz 22: 081 21/40021 |
We spent well over 200 Euro at J. Eilles on Residenztrasse on chocolate
some as gifts but mostly for ourselves in November including those amazing marzipan balls and also the chocolate balls containing, rum, wine, gin etc etc mike |

I might have to try some of the suggestions above during my next Munich trip. :D |
After visiting all of the Munich chocolate shops mentioned here, and doing extensive "research" ;) , I've come up with my personal list of favorites.
Stolberg and Amai are my two favorites, can't choose one over the other. Stolberg has an extensive array of other chocolate manufacturers in addition to the individual pieces he sells. Mr. Stolberg is quite knowledgeable. Amai has GREAT packaging for gifts. Look for the little red boxes or the brown pyramid boxes. I bought quite a few chocolates in gift boxes and my friends were blown away by the clever packaging as well as the chocolates. The place serves coffee and tea, as well. Also, check out the really nice wine shop two doors down, Retter's. Franz - Kontor für Schokolade, Rottenhofer, & Dallmayr would be my choices after the two above. |
