First, it should be: "nach Bonn Hauptbahnhof", not "zum".

"Hau" sounds like "how". "Bahn" needs a long "ah", no short "o". (Sorry, I'm not good at inventing English phonetical spelling.)

Nach is a very confusing word for me as an American who taught himself (some) German, as it seems to mean quite a few things...

Is 'Zum Bonn Hbf' grammatically incorrect, as it seems to mean to me: to the Bonn main train station? I understand that nach might be a better word to use here.

I've just seen nach used in so many different ways that it is difficult at times to discern what it actually means.

Either: "nach Bonn zum Hauptbahnhof" or "zum Hauptbahnhof in Bonn", also possible: "zum Bonner Hauptbahnhof"

"nach" has in deed a lot of meanings, e.g.:
"5 Minuten nach 12" - "5 minutes past 12"
"Ich fliege nach Bonn" - "I'm flying to Bonn"
"Nach 200 Metern nach rechts abbiegen" - "Turn right after 200 meters"
"Ich fahre Dich nach hause" - "I'll drive you home"
"Hast Du nachgedacht?" - "Did you think about it"

Well, do you remember that one:

German guy: Ich gehe nach Aldi (I go to a certain supermarket)
Turkish guy: zu Aldi, zu.... (to that certain supermarket)
German guy: Wie, Aldi schon zu? (Oh, are they already closed?)

The grammatical use of the word "nach" is really bad in the Ruhrpott area... :D

Don't mind the Ruhrpott, in my eyes it's worse, that the Duden now allows both "größer als..." and "größer wie...".

Ich: "Du bist aber noch keine 16, oder?"
Er: "Nee, aber sind wirklich für meinen Vater, der hat mir auch

okay, may I go for something not as funny for the people around? :)

Speak English and alook out for "Bus to Bonn main station" or take a printout with you with checkmarks where you can point at:

"Suche den Bus nach Bonn Hauptbahnhof."

[to confuse you about zu / nach - to the bonn main station would be zum as main station is the thing, "nach Bonn Hauptbahnhof" is in fact the short not very correct version of "nach Bonn zum Hauptbahnhof".

I would assume you see signs there guiding you to it.
Try to have little change with you like a 10 Euro bill max for buying a bus ticket. Check out the web sites of Bonn, you can expect this to have english translations due to the time of being capital.

You will find Bonn to be a funny mix of international flair and small city due to that as well.

Bonn itself is very nice and easy to get around, if you visit there do not forget a short trip to cologne for the Dom and some more - you can actually enter the bus anywhere in Bonn and buy a ticket to cologne right away.

You do have a mixed system of bus / train etc which is all linked together in a so called "verkehrsbund" aka system of transportation is locally linked.
