In Berlin I'd go see the various palaces located in and around the city, and perhaps Potsdam too. I found the Berlin Wall "memorial" quite uninspiring and a little bit of a letdown, but it was still cool to see it I guess. When in Munich, definitely visit Neuschwenstein, and Linderhof (the smaller hunting lodge of Ludwig) is not bad either - kinda like a very mini Versailles. I also enjoyed Hamburg a lot, and Stuttgart is not bad, though a bit more subdued than the more major cities.

Just thought I'd add that although I am not a great photographer - I'm not that bad either. Especially wth a digital camera (where I can take 100 pictures and save and edit the 2 best). In my experience - unless you are really terrific and working with great equipment - large scale "nature" and "landscape" photography is one of hardest things to do right. Most of your pictures just wind up looking like bad postcards. It's a lot easier taking interesting photos of smaller scale things - like buildings - and art - and food. Even parts of buildings. I took a bunch of photos at the new wing of the High Museum in Atlanta a few months ago - parts of the building - and they wound up great - looking like abstract paintings. Markets can be very interesting places to take pictures too. So wander around - and see what catches your eye.
Taking pictures of people is tricky. You always have to know the local customs - and not be impolite (many people don't like their pictures being taken by strangers). I always ask before taking a picture of a person I don't know. Robyn |
