Hotels in Munich
I'll be in Munich for a conference from Nov 11 - Nov 18. I would appreciate any suggestions for a nice (with lots of amenities) hotel in the city near activity. I hate to stay at hotels far from teh centers of activity.
Thanks, |
Wilkommen.
The Hilton is pretty nice. It is right above the subway, has all the comforts you'd expect and is not horribly overpriced. The subway to the center of town (Hauptbahnhof) is about 5-7 minutes. The subway line also connects to the Munich airport, which is about a 35-40 minute ride (much better than getting a car). It also has a few decent restaurants in the area, is near several museums, and several nice walks. If you are driving, it has an underground garage, but you have to pay extra for that. |
Re Hilton...second the recommendation. Plus, if you are Hilton Gold or diamond, I almost always get upgraded to a suite.

If you end up at Munich Park, bus 54 goes from Ostbahnhof right to the hotel, or quicker from Giselastrasse in the opposite direction. I have never been upgraded to suite on either hotel, with Gold or Diamond... usually executive floor though. |
I may need to make a return trip to Munich in Oct. I noticed a brand new Courtyard Marriott that is a block from the Hauptbahnhof (Central) subway stop. No reports because it's not open yet - and not sure if it has all the amenities you want. I've stayed at the Hotel Torbrau which is close to the Isortar stop; it's a nice hotel.

Thanks, My favorite is the MO Rafael - even better location in the heart of things, beautiful rooms, efficient staff, best bathrooms in Germany, but has a rooftop pool that might be a little chilly in Nov! |
top three picks right in city centre would be (in no particular order) Bayerischer Hof, Vier Jahreszeiten, Mandarin Oriental. truly stunning luxury hotels.
but there are a lot of very good hotels in the city, from the big names to private owned and the city is not that big that you could miss something out (if you don't pick the kempinski airport...). perfect public transport (safe) and most things in walkable distance. enjoy! |
Has anybody stayed in the "Kings Hotel - First Class"? Got a good review on Tripadvisor.co.uk and a good package price on Lastminute.com. Infact they had 2 offers for this hotel - one with and one without a continental breakfast include. The one with breakfast as £3 dearer!!!

I'm staying one night in Munchen in a few weeks. I need to rent a car and looking at Hertz website there is one at a station but I'm not sure which one! Any idea's if there's one at or near the Hauptbahnhof? (I regularly use Hertz so would prefer not to use a different agency)

As to hotels, check out the Stadthotel Asam located on Josephspitalstrasse. The hotel is located two blocks from the pedestrian zone, and two blocks off of Sonnenstrasse (which wraps around the west side of the city center). Its a great hotel, with all modern amenities and comforts. My family and I stayed there for a week in a 2 bedroom suite in August.
For car rentals, check out sixt - www.sixtusa.com. Sixt has a return location just west of the Hauptbahnhof and I believe there is also one a Stachus (a.k.a. Karlsplatz). |

Phillip Best of luck to you. |
Thanks, I use Hertz for business on a weekly basis so usually get a very good rate and almost always get a very good free upgrade and as we all know on Flyertalk, upgrades are everything!!

I stayed at the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski München back in January for two nights. I belong to the LHW Leaders Club and despite the reservation not being made through LHW, the hotel allowed me all the privileges -- early check-in (7 AM after my red-eye, a nice upgrade, welcome fruit, and a late check-out the last day). Found it a very nice hotel and a great location. Also earned 500 AA miles.

For info on Kings Hotel - First Class, check out what people say at Bimmerfest.com on the european delivery board. A lot of people stay there when they pick up their BMWs.
