Escalators at MUC
 

In light of the current media coverage of Munich Airport, I would like to ask whether others have made the same observation as I have:

In my experience, escalators are disproportionately frequently not working at both T1 and T2, meaning that pax with hand luggage have to walk up or down the escalators after arrival. The sometimes considerable differences in elevation between the levels is particularly evident at Non-Schengen in T2.

Families, older people and those with limited mobility suffer particularly from this situation.

Friends and family independently confirm my observation, I am however wondering if others here had similar experiences in the past couple of years?

You mean the escalators between the Non-Schengen Gates in T2 and the Jet Bridges?

Yepp. Quite often out of service.

Exactly those, because they are the ones with the huge difference in elevation.

Especially on flights to or from the USA, there are always airport employees on site, but they do nothing to amend the situation.

Rarely are the escalators cordoned off with tape; most of the time, they are simply not switched on.

The result is always that people end up to take the stairs or just somehow make their way up or down the escalator.

Especially in the cold season, when you have a jacket with you in addition to two (or three) pieces of hand luggage, this is unnecessarily dangerous.

Considering the frequency that I experienced this, I cannot help but wonder if it is just mismanagement to address the situation or if this is somehow company policy.

But it's not just Terminal 2 that's affected. In Terminal 1, the escalators are often simply not switched on, either.

Yep, my observation, too. They are not broken. They are just not switched on. No idea who is supposed to dthat. Airport facility mgmt, airline staff, some magical elf?
