I guess this is as good a thread as any to bump, since it is not excursions outside of Berlin. Will be there in the dead of winter, likely with a bunch of coworkers.

Recommendations on places to eat and drink? Not Michelin star, but interesting or unique for food. Anything from hole in the wall to pricey. Good food, doesn't have to be a particular type of food. Markets maybe?
For drinks, again, interesting, unique, quirky. Live music is always a welcome plus. Any neighborhood with a collection of bars? Remember, it is winter so not lots of time walking outdoors.
I remember from travel shows that there were bars in East Berlin that grew from abandon buildings. Do they still exist? Still interesting?
Our company is based in Germany, so we have done all the beer gardens, beer halls, small brew pubs, but I always like a craft beer bar.

I'd look in the Prenzlauer Berg area, near Metzer Straße.

There's Metzer Eck which is an old East German bar from 1913. Across the street is Watt which has live music every night. There are a lot of restaurants and bars in the area, Museum Island and the Brandenburg gate are a few stops on the U away, a lot of East German history/bars/restaurants in general, the M2 and the U and S are all close by and Myer's Hotel, which has a fantastic breakfast, is our home one month out of the year.

That sounds great! Thanks. Love old bars.

This place does a variety of live performance. Their site is available in both english and german.

It's a nice space that's roomy but not set up for a large audience and they have an indoor/outdoor reception area along the river.

I heard about it from a friend who led drama tours of Germany for ~20+ years and was acting as a remote social coordinator last time I was there.

Will check that out, as it is near the hotel we are staying at.

That being said, I will be extending my stay in Berlin, but not at the hotel. Looking at AirBnB type places. Any neighborhood recommendations?
Reading here it looks like people like Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichsh. But any suggestions are welcome. Always like places that I can walk around, even though it will be winter.
I guess also what subway lines should I be looking at to get me to major sites or best connections (if there is one).

There may be various political issues going on in Germany at the moment with the Government losing a no-confidence vote and a general election taking place in Februry but there aren't any riots on the street or mobs marching with pitchforkes and burning torches towards the Presidential Residence, the Bundestag or the Federal Chancellery!

Chancellor Scholz isn't being flown to a safe haven country to escape such mobs.
