Driving from Frankfurt to Milan

Question on driving from Frankfurt to Milan and see some sights along the way. Two questions:

1. How are the roads between Frankfurt to Milan? The toll roads are listed as A5, A67, A6, A2, A3, A1, A8, E35. Are these "normal" roads and highways or are there any curvy mountainous single lane roads with 2 way traffic overlooking a cliff?

2. Any must see sights along the way?

Thanks!

Not sure how much time you are willing to use to get there.
But a couple suggestions:
1. Drive along the Rhine river - it is beautiful.
2. Strasbourg or even better Colmar (smaller version of Strasbourg)
3. Freiburg has a nice old town center and university.
4. Lucerne is gorgeous, a nice walk along the water including historical bridges.
5. And you will pass by Lake Como and Lugano, both worth a stop.

A = autoroute/autostrada or the équivalent in most parts of Europe, which is a limited access freeway.

In Germany, the autobahns are not tolled. However they are extremely boring and always clogged with road works that never finish, congestion, and radars.

In Italie, the autostrada are tolled.

E is just "European route" which crosses national borders, and in Belgique, they function as the désignation for autoroutes.

The streets are all normal Autobahnen. No single lane streets. It's quite a fast connection.

There are NO toll roads in Germany (only trucks must pay). If you drive through Switzerland you must buy a vignette https://www.ch.ch/en/travel-and-emig...rway-vignette/ . You can buy them at the border. In Italy you pay toll at toll booths. Roads are normal four lane sometimes six lane highways. In Switzerland ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A2_motorway_(Switzerland) )/ Italy you will pass the Alps with a lot of tunnels, bridges and changes in elevation but roads are normal highways/motorways.
