Dumb question about MUC
Leaving today and need to visit the Steiff store in the T2 satellite. My flights usually depart from the main T2. I know the store is behind security, and there is an underground tram that runs between the terminals. I have not found a way to get there without going through passport control? When I was last here 5 months ago, I could not get to the underground tram from T2 departures.
Any idea? Was it closed back then? Or am I missing something obvious? |
The tram links the Schengen areas G and K, as well as the non-Schengen areas H and L.
Your problem is the Scheiff store appears to be in L which is non-Schengen and would require passport control in both directions to visit it from the Schengen areas. |
That's what I thought.
I am exiting the EU though, so I will be going through passport control. What I saw last time is that I appear to need to exit Schengen, re-enter at K, L, and repeat the process on the way back as my flight is in H. unless there is a transfer passenger path I am unaware of. The info booth at the airport was insistent that it is possible. So I have a few hours to kill, so why not try? |
Ok, then it's easy.
Go to the satellite first, following signs to K. Once in K, follow the signs to L upstairs and go through passport control. Visit the store. Then follow the signs for H which should take you back to the non-Schengen part of the tram. No more passport controls, if there is one in your way you've taken a wrong turn. |
Thanks!
that must have been my problem last time. I went through passport control on the "wrong" side. |
It still should have been possible to get over to the satellite and back outside passport control, following signs to L on the way out and to H on the way back. I only suggest going through passport control in the satellite because there is usually no or very short queues, while in the main building the queues build up with those folk originating in MUC.

I managed to do it. Here's how (a couple friendly polizei assisted with my questions - it is awkward talking to a couple people sporting automatic weapons):
Go through security, follow the signs to the K gate area. Board the tram. After leaving the tram and going up, follow the signs for the connection to "L". You do not need to enter the terminal. You just go up the escalator one more level to "L" after you exit the long up escalator that dumps you in front of the terminal entrance. Follow that up one floor, to passport control. Go through, you are there. The store In question for me (Steiff) was shut down and empty. Go figure. Neither the website, info booth, or polizei knew this. To get back, follow the signs to go to "L", board the tram in the non-Schengen side to gates G, H or wherever you are going. |
