Transit in Germany

Do we need to fill out the German entry form online if we are only transiting? We are going from Greece to Iceland via Germany.

Thanks!

Typically not.. see https://www.einreiseanmeldung.de (EN available)

You are in transit inside Schengen, so no one will ask for any registration.

We were not allowed to board by the check in staff without this, so we had to fill one out, which was tricky since it asks for your address in DE where you will be and we did not have one...several others had the same issue who were in transit to home in France etc.

I’d be tempted to google the street address of LH HQ and enter that.

Which is stupid... the checkin staff should know better :(

Or the street address of FRA. :D

It is disheartening to do so much research, and frequently check for updates, only to be at the whim of check-in staff that don't always know what they are doing.

Yep, had to do this for transit in FRA back in April and then for LIS last month. I just put in the address of the airport both times. Worked!

WOW - we'll have time to visit a lounge while in transit - I hope that staff is more up on the regulations.

My other concern is whether the UA checkin crew at ORD will know that we don't need paperwork for a transfer!

I'm flying from YYZ to BCN via FRA next week and understand that current regulations do not require anything from Canadians transiting through Germany to Spain (where Canadians are not required to provide any testing or vaccine records; I am fully vaxxed FWIW).

However, I've seen some FT stories where misinformed airline / airport staff are still asking people in my situation to provide proof of the Digital Entry Registration. Wanting to be safe rather than sorry, I tried filling one out, but once you enter Canada as your origination country, it just says:

You do not need to complete the Digital Registration on Entry.

You may now close the browser. Enjoy your stay!
Any advice on what I should do to avoid any issues? Thank you!

By now the airport staff will have recognised that CA is off the list of countries.

Dan1113 Aug 30, 2021 3:49 am

Airport staff in Greece refused to let me on a flight to Iceland via Germany without filling it out - so I had to do it anyway at the airport, and list the airport address I was transiting at as my location for the next 10 days. Ridiculous.

Fingers crossed you are right and I won’t encounter Dan1113’s problem.
