I've already booked flight and hotel for this year! Will be there for for the opening weekend.

Tents are already accepting reservations but even they say that they can not confirm the reservations before June since it is still open if the Wiesn will take place this year or will not.

Thats normal, the reservations in February are always with the caveat if they get the permit to open a tent in late May/early June.

I would be amazed if Wiesn goes ahead, but thinking about it is making me both thirsty and hungry!

I looked up a reservation for last year which I got in late January (when the pandemic was not a factor) and it confirms my memory:
Die endgültige Reservierungsbestätigung und unsere damit verbundenen Reservierungs-bedingungen erhalten Sie, sobald uns die Zulassung für das Oktoberfest 2020 durch die Landeshauptstadt München erteilt wird. In der Regel erfolgt diese Erlaubnis Ende Mai/Anfang Juni. Erst dann erhält dieses Reservierungsangebot seine Gültigkeit. Schon jetzt möchten wir Sie darauf hinweisen, dass die Reservierung nur dann verbindlich sein wird, wenn Sie sich auch mit unseren Ihnen noch zugehenden Reservierungsbedingungen einverstanden erklärt haben. |
I don't wonna be a pessimist but I see no real chance that there will be an Oktoberfest in 2021.

Hey, the Chancellor said every adult will get (an offer to make an appointment for) a vaccination by September 26 :)
I think a low density version will take place, but it won't be close to the normal levels and very low key. |

I was sort of surprised they officially cancelled it already, but not entirely surprised. They could have waited on canceling to see how the infection and vaccination scene developed during the next few months, but then any cancellation may actually upset even more who would have put their money toward it only to find out it gets a late-in-the-game cancellation.

Construction starts in June, so early May is the decision point. :(

Ah bummer. Was hoping we would be far along enough with vaccinations that it could go on.
