Hamburg with Two Teenage Boys

Am taking my partner and her two teenage boys to Hamburg for a long weekend in early February. Any thoughts on some things to do to sightsee in the city and surrounding area for two teenagers (age 16 and 18)?

Also which is best district to stay in to sightsee?

This thread is a good place to start:

I would stay around the Alster for convenience. Not sure what your budget is, but you have a wide choice, including Meridien, Kempinski, Hilton, Park Hyatt, Steigenberger, Marriott/Renaissance, Vier Jahreszeiten.

Don't forget Fontenay.

I did not read the whole linked article, but I would like to add the following sightseeing spots (all depending on the preferences / attention span / interests of your boys):
  • Balinstadt (https://www.ballinstadt.de/?lang=en) - Emigration Museum dedicated to the theme of "migration" starting in the 16th century until today. Nice building in the same spot, where people have been leaving the continent for the "New World"
  • Maritime Museum Hamburg (https://www.imm-hamburg.de/international/en/) - Surprisingly, there is a museum about maritime history in a harbour town .. ;-)
  • The Rickmer Rickmers (https://www.rickmer-rickmers.de - only german page) - An old ship build in 1896 laying near the Landungsbrücken - showing an old style sailing ship
  • Submarine Museum Hamburg (https://www.u-434.de/u-bootmuseum.html - only german page) - A small museum where you can walk onto a real russian submarine U 434 (Tango class) which have been in use until 2002
  • Stadium tour at FC St. Pauli (https://www.fcstpauli.com/tickets/stadionfuehrung/ - only german page) - Short stadium tour in a rather unique club in the german football scene. The museum might be worth a short visit as well, never did it myself.
Concerning the hotel, I would find something near a S-Bahn or U-Bahn station, making the use of public transport more convenient. Ideally find something next to a S1 station, which runs to the airport.
Be aware, that, when going TO the airport, the train splits in Ohlsdorf. Only the front 3 cars go to the airport, the rear 3 cars won't.

Probably too tame these days but Reeperbahn is said to be excellent for young males.

OK, Miniatur Wunderland is featured in the "must-thread", but again here: it's a must!
Considering the age of your boys, I would also consider to take a look at The George Hotel and the 25hrs Speicherstadt Hotel; I bet they prefer this over a "Marriott" ...
Have fun!

Miniatur Wunderland is a MUST, you can just catch the no 6 bus from Hamburg hbf, it runs every 15 min and take to the last stop, it is almost right outside the building.

PS, booked a time that you are going to go on their website, otherwise you have to wait for 30min to more than a hour to get in, i made a mistake not to book a time, as from the website it doesnt show not that busy around 7pm, i got there at 6:30pm, they still made me wait til 7:15pm.
