A few layovers at Frankfurt...

I have some flights coming up in the summer with a few layovers at Frankfurt potentially since flying through Frankfurt to be in Europe and from there go to US would save a lot of money.

How is the Frankfurt airport? Is it easy to get to the Hilton airport hotel? What about switching from European flights to international flights? Airport food ok and is it worth exploring the City for a day?

Looking forward to your feedback

There is plenty of information in the Frankfurt airport thread. It is a big but generally efficient airport. Not sure how long you are planning on being there, but tens of thousand of people connect through it every day. There are many restaurants and shops, the two Hiltons are in an adjacent mega-building containing offices, shops, restaurants, and a railway station. Much better connecting through FRA than LHR, for example.

Just stayed at the Hilton at FRA (HGI is just next door). It's an easy and well-marked passageway to the hotels from the terminal. There are a few reasonable food options and a Starbucks there.

You need around 15-10 minutes by train to downtown Frankfurt which gives you plenty of restaurants and shops to explore. A nice thing is for example to go to the Maintower observation deck https://www.maintower.de/en/observat...opening-hours/ . You have a great view from up there.

Personally I like the view from the cathedral tower more, it is also cheaper to get up there and you need to do some exercise because you will have to walk up all the 238 stairs.
