Help finding the hospital where my mum was born in Husum in 1944

Am hoping a German or historian guru might be able to help. My mum would like to return to the area where she was born before she dies. She was born in Husum Germany in 1944. Despite extensive internet searching, I cannot find the exact location of where the hospital was in 1944. Anyone have any ideas how to find out because I would love to make this happen for my mum. I tried to local tourist office and was simply told they had no idea. Many thanks

I would expect the Husum city archive to be able to help you.

If you are lucky, then your mums birth is already filed in the electronic birth register of the city of Husum. This will state in which hospital she was born . Try to contact their register office via their website ..on the left you have some names of contact people.

You can also try to check the online version of the register where you can request the birth certificate. the system will show you if a record exists, before you have to make any payment etc. unfortunately its in German only.

and select the link on the right "Anforderung einer Urkunde aus dem Geburtenregister"

I would like to add two more options:
- For anything concerning the history of Husum (whereabouts of buildings like a hospital), the "Verein für Stadtgeschichte" (A society working on the local history) might help: http://www.husumer-stadtgeschichte.d...impressum.html (this page is in german, but there are two contacts there)
- Is your mother baptized? Then the register at the local church might help.

Verein für Stadtgeschichte is a very good advice. Did a short search for something like this but didn't find it. Often this people (I'm a member of such an organization in my hometown) know very much about former hospitals (or ones which existed at the time) etc or at least are happy to assist. Husum is not very big so if you can't find out in which one your mother was born you can at least visit the potential places. There is indeed a chance that the building stil exists even if it's likely not a hospital any more.
