VAT refund at Berlin Tegel airport

Hello:

I am planning to do some serious shopping in Germany and want to claim my VAT refund. I have done a Google Search on this general topic, but am still not sure whether I can leave my German goods in my check-in luggage. I want to buy plenty of cosmetic and skincare items, many of which are liquids. So, I can't leave them in my carry-on.

I will depart Berlin Tegel for Zurich. Is it possible for me to leave my items in my check-in bags (i.e., get the Customs stamp BEFORE check-in) ? The official German Zoll website says this is ok, but the Global Blue website says the opposite.

http://www.zoll.de/EN/Private-indivi...ping_node.html

http://www.globalblue.com/customer-s...ree-shopping3/

I understand that different airports may handle the situation differently. The Tegel airport website doesn't specify one way or the other. Any insights are much appreciated! Thanks!

You checkin and get the luggage tagged. Don't check the bag though, tell them you need to get customs verification first. You then go to the customs office in TXL and present the luggage and the paperwork. The customs officer may ask to see the goods before stamping the papers and certifiying the export.

For final clarification you can contact the customs office in TXL by email here: http://www.berlin-airport.de/en/busi...rity/index.php

If I am flying TXL-FRA => outside EU, should I handle my VAT refund paperwork for items going in checked luggage at TXL?

Here is an updated link for TXL VAT refund services:
