Stuttgart

Just signed up for flyertalk so hope I'm in the right area.

Going to Stuttgart in the next few weeks (never been to Europe).

Any ideas on hotels there, I will actually be just outside, in Kerner.

Flyer the Delta nonstop from Atlanta. Staying for three nights.

I am Starwood Gold.

Thanks.

Le Meridien is OK, nothing like Schlossgarten, but Starwood.

Welcome to FT!

Be careful with hotels in the Hauptbahnhof area in Stuttgart right now. The train station is in the process of a massive and messy reconstruction (cost is above 4 billion euros) and the situation in this area is, let's say, interesting...

If you are in Kernen (not Kerner), then staying in Stuttgart downtown is not the best strategy anyway, since the commute to Kernen will not be easy. I'd rather take a hotel in Waiblingen or in Kernen and take the bus or a taxi. The typical www-pages identify a few good hotels there. Transportation to Kernen is so-so, from Stuttgart you'd have to take the subway to Waiblingen and then the bus. With a rental car, stay in Waiblingen, Kernen, or Esslingen, or one of the smaller villages in between, and avoid Stuttgart (and Fellbach), as the traffic can be difficult.

Wow! Thanks to everyone for your ideas.

Had also only 1 stay;). Hmmmmmm is correct but to be fair, I know hotels which are worse. But if I had tio choose and price of Schlossgarten is not too high, I would go with Schlossgarten.

I remember my last stay in the Steigenberger across from the train station (in 2006). Never went back because the brass/glass and blue carpet of the 1980s really turned me off and the rooms looked like those that I had at boarding school. In general Stuttgart, for such a wealthy area, has pretty rubbish hotels. I used to escape to the Bühlerhöhe (RIP) or other nice places in the Black Forest.
