Connection Time [in FRA - non-Schengen to Schengen]
We are traveling AA From Miami to Frankfurt in July. How much time to go through passport control, customs, get our luggage and then go back through security to get our connection with SAS to Copenhagen. We arrive at 0600 and there is a 0925 flight I'm looking at booking.
Thanks, Patti |

Thanks, Patti PS There are numerous threads and posts on that in the M&M / LH forum! |
As this question is specific to FRA, and not related to LH (as it's a OW-*A connection), I'll move it over to the Germany forum.
Please continue to follow this topic in the Germany forum. stut Moderator Europe Forum |
ThomFam - just to clarify, is this one or multiple bookings?
AA does have an interline agreement with SK: http://flyerguide.com/Interline_Tick...d_BPs_%28AA%29 but they may not be inclined to do so if the SAS flight is a separate booking. |
Will this all be on one ticket, or are you buying two different tickets?
SAS isn't part of OneWorld, so you need to factor in extra time in case your inbound AA flight is late, as neither SAS nor AA are likely to rebook you for free if the AA flight is late enough that you miss the next flight |

Thanks for the replies and sorry I posted in the wrong forum.
Stut, this is a multiple booking. We are booked from mia to fra but haven't bought the fra to copenhagen tickets yet. It looks like SAS has the cheapest fares but want to make sure I can make the connection. |
You might make it, if your inbound flight is on time, there are no problems at immigration, and your bags are delivered quickly.
However, if your flight is late, you may run into problems. Looking on flightstats, this route has a 78% on time rating, but an average delay of 20 minutes. The cheap SAS fares are completely inflexible, so if you miss your connection, neither airline is likely to reacommodate you (SAS and Lufthansa are the only airlines on this route). A walk-up fare in the next flight is going to be very expensive... Personally, I would leave at least 4-5 hours between these flights. If you find yourself with a lot of time, you can always check in early, hop on the train to Hauptwache, and wander down towards Roemerplatz and the cathedral. |
Thanks Stut, I will take your advice and start looking for a later flight. I don't want to start our vacation worrying about making a connection.

I have a similar problem:
1hr50min transit time at FRA Arr from CX289 at 0635 Dep AB6574 0825 for TXL What is the likelihood of a missed connection? Both arr and dept at T2, how far apart are the non-Schengen to Schengen gates? |

Both arr and dept at T2, how far apart are the non-Schengen to Schengen gates? T2 is the smaller terminal at FRA so this is good. The schengen -> Non-schenegen gates are actually above each other (Schengen below). But you will still have to follow the transfer signs which will route you through customs, immigration and security, so it will take a little longer. However, given the size of T2 then this still should not take long. If you allow 15min walking, 15mins for customs & immigration and 15mins for security then this should be OK. Security is normally a little slow (compared to T1), but I think at that time of the morning it will not be so busy so you should be OK. Assuming your inbound flight is on time. If you have 2 tickets, then you will also have to collect luggage and re-checkin. Then I think you are pushing it!! |
