Berlin March 2015

I'm planning a trip to Berlin in March of 2015 to attempt the ITB trade show.
I've never been to Berlin.

Looking at hotel deals on Hotwire I found a 4.5 star property for $92 p/night in the checkpoint Charlie area. I have no idea what hotel this may be because it showed as one of those "secret until you've paid for it" deals.

As far as flights go, I've got that covered through AC / LH, probably flying YUL-FRA-TXL-MUC-YUL.

What could you guys recommend in terms of accommodations and tips / must eat / must see places in Berlin? The trade show is from March 4th - 8th, I'm planning on arriving in Berlin on March 2nd in the morning.

Not sure how this post ended up at the Info Desk, but I think you'll see better feedback here in the more appropriate Germany forum. Good luck.

Berlin has a very good public transport system, especially the U-bahn (Underground Rail), so it is possible to stay many different places in Berlin and still be able to reach the places you want to see easily and fast.
The main issue for you would be how easy or difficult it would be for you to reach the trade show.
For reference, the Check-point Charlie is at the Kochstrasse U-bahn station (U6).
A link to the U-bahn site :

Public transport is fully integrated in Berlin so a ticket works for S-bahn, U-bahn, Trams and busses. The easiest is to buy a day ticket (AB - 6.70€ includes Tegel Airport).

I love the food court in the department store Ka-De-We :

6.+ 7. floor is food only.
Even if you don't eat there it's fun looking at.

Berlin has a lot of cheap or fairly priced sushi places.

There are many things to see in Berlin. Try looking at Wikitravel to see what interests you :

The busses 100 and 200 (doubledeckers mainly) are very good for a bit of sightseeing on the cheap. (normal tickets).
They leave from the Zoologisher Garten Station.

Plenty of decent hotels for under 100€/day available March 2-8 on Trivago.de, no need for secret deals. Pick a place which is well connected to the S-/U-Bahn to go to the ITB.

Berlin is probably the best large city in Europe to sleep well with little money. You don't have to spend more than €100 to get a good night's rest. The cheapest 5* hotel is often the Ritz Carlton, where you can get deals for ca €160 if you are up for that.

Quite so! I heard that Berlin is supposed to have more hotel beds than Manhattan and only about half the population. A number of chains keep on and on building new premises.

So with low occupancy rates you get 4* for under € 80 most nights.

However, when trade fairs come up - like ITB - the rates get raised to extortionate levels so I would highly recommend you move soon, via trivago.de as suggested further up

Yes! It´s often cheaper than mediocre hotels in smaller Germany cities.

I'm going in February and will be taking the airport express from Schönefeld Airport, but as far as Tegel goes, I'm not sure.
