You will be at the new gate much faster than the other passengers get their baggage. This could take 30-60 minutes :)

Don't worry, if your incoming flight isn't very late you'll have plenty of time. You exit terminal C and will arrive at A no later than 10 minutes after that, sometimes AB also has flights at A.

I'm in the same boat, currently considering KRK-TXL-JFK on a Sunday where AB doesn't fly their usual early flight into TXL. So it would be 12:10 into TXL and then out to JFK at 13:00. I can't find any information on what gates would be used (this is many months out). Could anyone provide any insights particular to this routing that might make this feasible or infeasible? I understand that this is all Schengen, but I have never been to TXL and do see that there are multiple terminals - and there seems to be confusion in the discussion above. Are there security or other potential terminal change issues that might make this impractical?

My main issue here is that we're trying to maximize the length of our trip. The only way to get all the flying in on a Sunday is to take the routing stated above. The previous KRK-TXL AB flight before the 12:10 Sunday is around noon Saturday - so it would violate AA 24-hour international connection rules since we want to leave on the 1 PM to JFK on Sunday. So we'd either have to cut the trip shorter or buy that flight with Avios and overnight in Berlin. Thoughts?

Probably be rerouted via LHR if trouble arises.

Could you elaborate on this? If I have an AB J award (off of AA miles) and get misconnected, what do you think they will do? Are you suggesting BA? Would they likely preserve class of service? If there is a legitimate chance that they could do a decent reroute on BA, I wouldn't really be terribly concerned. Our final destination is DC - if they even put us on the direct into IAD that could be an upside.

The flight to JFK at 1 pm usually leaves at gate A00/01 and IIRC that section has been used for the New York flights for ages even before AB operated them. That's right toward the pavillon with shops and so forth where you get to Terminals B,C and D and that can be reached very quickly from most of the rest of the airport. Assuming the Ex-KRK flight is on time and the luggage is checked through it's an easily doable connection.

Thank you very much for this!

That is still a very tight connection. If you were able to ticket it, it will be honoured, but a US-bound flight with only 50 minutes is really cutting it short!

There's a risk, with 50 mins you don't have much room for error but all he has to do is walk to the gate, go through security then a brief trip to the plane. I've done all that in under 15 mins before. I'd hesitate to book it primarily because you don't know if that Krakow flight is punctual.

Thanks, all. Due to the concerns posted and reiterated by others, we decided to just add a couple days in Berlin onto our trip. So we're flying in two days before on a separate (4500 avios) AB ticket. I think it should be worthwhile and a chance to see a bit of a new city.

That's the best decision you could made. Berlin is a great city, absolutely worth a few days or weeks (or years or decades...)

Great to hear. And yes, it seems that there's never enough time to spend at a place!

Well, things can always happen, but TXL is super-tiny. When I fly in, usually I'm at home 35 minutes after touching down (and I live 20 minutes away). It's a great, small, hassle-free airport, and the longest you have to walk between gates is maybe 10 minutes, maaaaybe 15.

Contrary to popular belief, transiting between two non-Schengen flights without Clearing Immigration is possible. However, the Airline taking you to TXL must submit advance passenger info to both the handling Agent and the Airport authorities by telex, and the Connection time Needs to be at least 75 minutes. Also the Connection must be on the same day

Hi all -

Tried to do some searching but couldn't find a strait answer. Does anyone know what terminal Austrian operates into? I just booked a ticket VIE-TXL-EWR (connecting in TXL to the United nonstop flight) with 1hr, 20min transit time. I *think* that will be ample but would like to know if I should expect to re-clear security or if Austrian will arrive into A near the United gate?

Thanks in advance!

You should be fine. I take the EWR flight all the time, and it’s rarely crowded, so your security time should be ok.
