if you had a week in Germany

If you had a week in Germany what cities would you visit and what would you do?

if you had a week in Germany

It would help enormously give you gave some indication of your interests. Some people might spend a week at Legoland, others in museums.

First you must decide which Region you prefer - South Germany is very different from North Germany. Also interests are important.

I would start out with 2 nights in Ruedesheim (Rhine Valley), where one can take a gondola over the vineyards, and take a Rhine cruise perhaps as far as Koblenz, and perhaps visit the Cologne Cathedral as well as part of that day trip (boat and train combo concept works well). Then I would proceed to Berlin for about 3 nights to experience the vibrant capital, and start by using bus routes 100 or 200 to get acquainted with major sights. Finally I would spend 3 nights or so in Munich, with, among other things, an opportunity to visit the Neuschwanstein Castle near Fuessen and the Hofbrauhaus.

I'm on board with Reindeerflame's suggestions, but as those total 8 nights (so probably 9 days), that may be a little more time than you have. If so, leave the Rhine Valley for next time and focus on Berlin & Munich. Regardless of what your interests are, you will find things to interest you in both cities.

if you had a week in Germany

Nuremberg / Muenchen
Koeln / dusseldorf
Hamburg / Lubeck

These 3 pairs are all lovely and I would spend a week in any of them, or choose 2 pairs for the week.

thshaun let me ask you. If you had a week in Canada what cities would you visit and what would to do?

Tell us a bit more about your interests and we can help you.

For now I just say go to Berlin and spend the whole week there.

Munich with visits to GAP and Augsburg perhaps. Another alternative is Munich with a trip to Berchtesgaden.

Munich is one of my favorite cities in the world (I'm an ex resident) and I go there 4-5 times a year.

I would do Berlin-Leipzig-Nürnberg-München. 4 cities with a different cultural past, all on the same OW train ticket.

I would recommend against 4 cities on a 7-day trip. That leaves just a little over a day per city.

I like the Berlin-Munich idea.
That or embrace the Rhein Valley.
One of the two, depending of course on what your interests are.

Also, do you plan on having a car or public transportation? Another factor.

Well personally i'd do Hamburg and Lubeck - that's next on my list for Germany. But if I hadn't been to Germany before i'd probably go for Munich and environs.

I'd do Munich and Bamberg, close enough together that you aren't going too far and wasting too much time, and you can day trip to numerous places from either.

We just got back from Hamburg and it was my first time there. I would love to go back for a week. So much to see and do. Two days wasn't enough for us.

Take the ferry to Amrum, in the North Sea, rent a cottage by the beach, and look out and contemplate life with a small glass of Küstennebel.
