Dresden-Litvinov drive

I wasn't sure whether to put this in Germany or Europe folder. so will try here first.

I'll be working in Litvinov, Czech Republic for three days and am thinking of staying in Dresden. Is the drive feasible? I see from Google maps that the distance is about 85 km. That's how far I drive around London. But does the traffic between Dresden and Litvinov get bad in the mornings?

I would appreciate any thoughts from anyone who knows the area.

The traffic can`t be compared to London, but it`s a long drive. I guess at least 1,5 hours, perhaps even 2 one way. So I would stay near by.

There isn't much nearby. Alternative is to stay in Prague. I have been to Prague many times and was thinking of something different.

That`s the problem with such Locations. But do you like to drive 4 hours per day?

Are you in a rental car? Many of them don't let you take the car to the Czech Republic.

Thanks for the tip off. I will check with car rental company. I hadn't thought of that.

I'd quite like to stay at the Hilton in Dresden and explore the city. In London I drive 90 minutes each way through stressful traffic.

Driving in Saxony can be beautiful. I don't quite understand the relevance of driving in London, though. Be sure to check the restrictions on which countries you can take a car into. Most of the big agencies will have country restrictions (much of eastern Europe is out) and I'm pretty certain no one will let you take a high category car (Audi, BMW, Mercedes) there. If you do, your insurance falls away, and you may never see the car again ;)

A small rental car can be driven cross. Besides we normally decline car rental company's insurance and drive on our own corporate insurance cover.

My point on the insurance was that any policy (including your corporate insurance cover) will fall away if you took the car to a country not authorised by the rental agency.

Anyway, just check. Sixt is pretty strict about these things (you cannot take a certain class of car to Italy even), Hertz as well.

I called Europcar (the company we use). If our insurance has a larger excess then the rest will be self insured by my company.
