Berlin TXL: Daytime Layover at Hotel?

We are scheduled to arrive on AB from ORD at 700am, with our connecting AB flight to OSL not departing until after 400pm. Because our trip actually originates in CA (via UA to ORD), I'd like to build in an opportunity for a nap upon arrival in Berlin.

Any experience with that concept, as in day rates at the nearby hotel? I guess I could just contact them directly. It would be nice to nap from, say, 8am to 1 or 2pm and then make our way back to TXL.

If possible, sleep on the way over, then get out and see a bit of Berlin:

Personally, it would screw up my sleep schedule for at least a few days if I took a nap immediately upon arrival.

The nap trick is my method for beating jet lag. After a long TATL flight, the goal is to arrive in Europe as late as possible (Noon is better than 6am), check into a hotel, take a nap for a few hours (3 to 5), then get up and do things until no earlier than 10pm...with the goal of having a normal night.

This almost always works for me. Last fall, we arrived in Milan around 9am, transferred to Sestri Levante by train at 2pm, checked in immediately, took a nap until 6, and then went out and explored the town and had dinner. By the next day, we were on a normal cycle and never looked back.

We are quite familiar with Berlin!

Hi,
there is only one hotel directly at the airport, a Mercure. Should be ok for a nap...

In that case, carry on.

Yes, everyone has their own system for overcoming jet lag.

I tend to be an unenthusiastic tourist when tired. The key is to wake up after the nap, and to not sleep through until midnight. That would be a disaster!

Berlin TXL: Daytime Layover at Hotel?

If you arrive at 7 you can be in Charlottenburg by 745. Try getting a day room at a hotel there Concorde, Kempinski for example. Pretty slim choices near TXL.

I was able to find a day room at the Lindner Hotel on the Ku'damm for 60 Euros, using the 9-to-5 website. That's a good location and a good price, and should allow for a nap and then lunch and walking around before heading back to Tegel Airport on Route 109, which stops within 100 feet or so.

Thanks for the update, I'm sure others will appreciate a recent data point.
