Dusseldorf - one night

We're arriving from early afternoon and departing 10AM the next day to FLR. I was planning on staying at the Sheraton but as an alternate I thought we might be able to get into the city and stay there.

Any thoughts on how hard it might be to get into an urban hotel to walk around a bit at night (late October) ? Thank You.

Unless there is a convention when you are there, finding hotel space shouldn't be an issue. Getting to any centrally located hotel from the airport would be rather easy with public transportation as well.

There is a S-bahn station at the airport but you might need coins or small bills for the ticket kiosk. Travel time should around 15-20 minutes.

The station is accessible by taking a down escalator on the arrivals level next to the McD.

One of the entrances to the S-Bahn station is right underneath the Airport Sheraton. Note that the hotel wasn't built as a Sheraton, so the rooms are small-ish, but otherwise fine.

To get downtown, you'll need to ride the S-Bahn to the central train station, and then the U-Bahn for a couple of more stops (to Heinrich-Heine-Allee, no additional ticket needed). The pubs/restaurants are most dense along Bolkerstrasse.
