The Brandenburg Willy Brandt Airport was originally set to open in 2011; the opening has been postponed to October 2020.

It is being constructed adjacent to Schönefeld Airport, which it will replace.

I´m not surprised, we have a word for all this in Germany: Dorftrottel

Well, it looks like Berlin's celebrity mayor has become bored with his job. As he has just announced that he will be stepping down from his elected position shortly. It has nothing to do with the BER fiasco. Nothing whatsoever. So don't let that thought enter into anyone's mind.

This article was recently published on CNN.com and I thought some folks here would find it interesting.

New Berlin airport opening end 2017?
So I have just noticed that the new airport will open end 2017.

What has not yet been publicised is that a delegation from BER will be spending this weekend in Parma. Apart from trying to get hold of air-dried ham they are attemting to negotiate the loan of the Parma IATA code (rather like this is done with footballers).
So for the meantime BER can be re-named PMF, which will stand for Pigs Might Fly

The end of 2017? Another 3 years?? That would mean a 6 year delay from the "original" delayed opening. Which I think was October 2011 at one point. Then it became March 2012... then June 2012...

I really like this sign!
Translation:
Berlin, we can do everything except
And there was a report that they want to build a new terminal because the capacity at the opening will be less than they currently need today!
