Hyatt Regency or Intercontinental in Düsseldorf?

I am going on a trip to Düsseldorf later this year and have a choice between these two hotels. Which one do you recommend? Any room tips?

It depends where you prefer to stay: the IC is in the heart of town, the Hyatt is in the so called Medienhafen in the middle of nowhere (not really, but I believe the area is highly overrated)

I am most interested in the hotels themselves, the service and in particular the rooms. Location is not very important.

The executive suites at IC are elegantly decorated.

Club lounge is very pleasant (very good breakfast, nice tea time/evening selections)

Service is smiling and professional.

Pool is at a charge (Holmes Place fitness centre).

Location cannot be more central.

Definetely the Hyatt in the Medienhafen.
The hotel is really really nice, wonderful rooms. If you can have Regency Suite on
higher floor with nice harbour view.
Dox restaurant and bar are also very good and especially the service in this hotel
is fantastic: from doormen to lady director.
Medienhafen itself gives you a lot of restaurants in walking distance.

I personally also prefer the Medienhafen area to downtown, but It's of course not nearly as central as the IC location. However, public transport or taxis are well available and as an added touch that smallish urban (and I think public) golf course is just around the corner in the Rhine river bend.

Hyatt question

I will be staying at the Hyatt later in December and will be coming from Cologne. I am wondering how convenient the Hyatt is to public transportation and how far of a walk is it from the Tram or the Metro.

Can someone please shed light on this?

thanks

For the Hyatt, the closest stop of S-Bahn is Völklinger Straße and it is a 10 to 15 minutes walk, depening on your luggage and how fast you are walking.

By tram, the closest stop is Franziusstraße and five minutes to walk to the hotel
