Frankfurt with 2yo?
 

Hello all --

couldn't find tips on this after searching: my wife and I will be in Frankfurt at the end of September for 2 days with our almost 2 year old daughter. Any suggestions for fun activities?

Also, hotel suggestions? There are good deals on Steigenberger etc, but I was thinking a suite hotel might be better to get us a separate living room (so we have somewhere to go during her nap)??

I don't know specifically what information you are seeking. Are you hoping to tailor two days of sightseeing around a toddler, or just looking for places you can meet their needs for a break?

This thread may be more relevant on the Germany forum, but Germany in general is quite child-friendly. Frankfurt isn't by any means a very exciting or unique German city, but there is a lot to do outside the city if you are planning on doing a driving tour or taking easy train trips. There are a lot of threads about that. As young children we spent a lot of time in the area outside of the city. My parents certainly didn't tailor holidays around us, but there was a lot to do which was still child-friendly.

Otherwise, finding playgrounds, play areas, and child-friendly food won't be much of an issue.

Again, hotel suggestions would be found in the Germany forum for Frankfurt. Suite hotels are not as common as in America, so you would need to decide if you really feel the need to book a suite in a regular hotel to make space for naps, or if you will make do with a regular hotel room, or if you will go the way of a holiday flat rental (not really that applicable for a two day stay)

A 2 year old is not old enough for the above places... We stayed a the Hilton when our #1 was under two and #2 wasn't born yet: they gave us an executive room (large enough for the cot to be at some distance) based on my HH gold status and the Frankfurt shopping / pedestrian area was just at our doorstep.

Agreed. An 'almost 2yo' will want a playground, or perhaps the pool, or will want to sit and pick at a leaf all day.

That's why I asked if they are planning the holiday around a 2 year old, or if they actually want to see some sights. Bring the child, but still enjoy oneself is my suggestion, and don't plan a holiday for a toddler. They'll come along and find enjoyment in almost anything.

+1 You'll probably regret that you spent your nice time at a theme park/kids friendly place, unless you only expect to have 1 kid. You don't know how little you can do when they start demanding things :D

I can recommend the Zoo. I have done this with my 2 year old daughter and we had a lot of fun there.

If you are planning to have a car for a day out, a drive along the Rhein with stops was something we enjoyed as kids but which allowed our parents to have an outing not entirely just child-focussed. The Niederwalddenkmal is a good place to wander and run about for the toddler but with beautiful views for the parents. At two I also liked the short ferry ride (not required but an option).

Thanks all for the replies and ideas. Should have been more clear: this is one stop on a long trip (+3 months, with me mainly in Asia, my wife mainly in Europe), and my first weekend with my little girl after me having been away for two months, so I wanted to spend some time with her doing things she likes.

Playgrounds, zoos above are all good -- will search the Germany forum but if there are more ideas, keep them coming please!

If that's the case I think you might considering staying outside Frankfurt because there are a lot more cute villages around Frankfurt where there you can take her around and maybe find some green area with playgrounds. If the weather is bad, there are some indoor playgrounds (you need to pay entrance) that you can play with her.
