MUC Lounge use
 

Meeting daughter in MUC. Can she use the lounge to wait for our arrival? She is businness class EWR- MUC arriving in the morning. We are FCO-MUC arriving 4:00 pm. Will this be a problem for her?

Arriving non Schengen in MUC she will take a segregated arrivals channel. In order to get airside again (and therefore to a lounge), no matter if it's Schengen or non schengen, she will need an onward boarding pass, which she doesn't hold if I understand that your final destination is MUC.
So basically she will pass immigration and need to wait landside in the arrivals area. There is no point waiting in the segregated arrivals area before immigration as this is basically just a long corridor with no nice place to sit (similar to US international arrivals).

There is no arrivals lounge landside for business class travellers in MUC. So no luck other than waiting in a café landside I'm afraid.

If she has a onward boarding pass which is business class too, then she can obviously reclear security, go airside and wait there in the regular business class lounge, but this will not be possible if MUC is her final destination.

The key question is: do you have an onward flight in business from MUC? If not, I don't believe you'll have access.

The Star Alliance website specifies departing an airport for access, and on a recent trip OSL-MUC in business we were denied access in MUC.

Lufthansa policy (use matrix to find intersection of "Lufthansa Business Lounge" and "Lufthansa/Star Alliance Business Class Ticket" also specifies departing.

On a brighter note, if the weather is nice, the outdoor courtyard at MUC is nice- shaded/covered but open-air.

That is why I like this website so much. An educated answer from someone who has been there.

Now I need to figure out what to do with a jet lagged young lady for 6 hours.

If I remember correctly there is a large covered area near the car rentel offices that has a bier garden. Hum maybe that is not such a good idea.

Any other ideas out there?

It's been a while since I have been in Munich, but when you step out of Terminal 2 you are indeed in a large area between Terminal 2 and Terminal 1. There is a Biergarden, but there are also some other restaurants and shops. Downstairs between the two terminals - where the train station is - there is also shops and some restaurants, as well as a Supermarket.
Depending on her arrival time, maybe some local traveller could recommend some place where she could have a nice breakfast and some wifi i.e.

If she likes watching planes she could also go the "Besucherhügel", which is a viewing platform. Or maybe make an airport tour... Nice to pass time and somehow interesting...

Other than that I don't really know what else can be done, as there is not much nearby in MUC since the airport is really remote.

Some hotels near the airport have dayrooms but they do not come cheap. The Kempinski which is attached to the airport charges 150 EUR, Novotel which is 5 mintes by public bus or one stop on the S-Bahn charges 85 EUR and the Sheraton charges 79 EUR plus 5 EUR for shuttle each way. The cheapest I can find is the Mövenpick which charges 69 EUR plus 8 EUR for shuttle each way.

The Kempinski offers day rooms to arriving LH C pax at 85€. There are pods/sleeping cabins you can rent in the terminal, but they are airside.

They will pick you up and drop you off for a charge and have simple rooms.

Thanks everybody for the good advice. Was able to change our flight at no cost so we now arrive at 1:30. She will be at the Airbrau.

You will only get lounge access on arrival as Lufthansa Senator, Hon Circle or if flying Lufthansa First Class.

This page says that if you are arriving in Munich with a Business Class ticket with a Lufthansa operated long-haul night flight you can freshen up or prepare for the business day ahead in one of our lounges.

Does anyone know if there is a luggage storage system in the airport like I've seen in some German train stations.
