connection in Munich
 

I have a question regarding flying into Munich from the US, and catching another flight to Italy 2 hours later.

I will be flying into Munich from the US on UA landing about 9:50 am. I am thinking of catching an 11:50 am flight to Rome using Alitalia. I am pretty sure the UA flight lands in terminal 2 and the Alitalia flight departs in terminal 1. Will I have time in Munich to go through immigration, collect my bags, check in myself and my bag for my flight to Rome, and get to the Alitalia gate on time?

The two flights are booked seperately, so there will not be an automatic transfer of baggage.

Basically, MUC is one of the best airports to connect. You should have more than enough time.
Connecting on two different tickets (PNRs) can be problematic. If your UA flight is late, then AZ is technically under no obligation to accommodate you, and may charge you extra.
Be sure to bring your AZ ticket details when you check-in with UA. United has an interline baggage agreement with Alitalia, so your bags should go through to your final destination of FCO without needing to be picked up in MUC. That said, on the return, AZ may not be so accommodating.

Thank you UAPremExecflyer for the quick response. I actually did surf the threads prior, but paranoia struck and I wanted to ask specifically. You did however direct me to some I had not seen.

I did not know UA would interline with Alitalia, so THANK YOU for that tip.

The airlines are in different alliances, but most major legacy carriers (not LCC) interline with each other.

Can you do OLCI for the AZ flight?

In reality, 2 hours would probably be enough time in MUC even if you had to claim your bag and recheck it. The airport is surprisingly compact.

Is "OLCI" on-line check in? If so, don't know........would be a big plus if I can.
