What's going on in DUS in mid may?

I checked hotel prices for 5/15 and even 4P, HIX and similar are in EUR300 range . Is there a major event of some sort?

The Finals of the Eurovison Song Contes is on 05/14.
and iīm afraid the whole area will be fully booked for the Weekend. Itīs an international Event and some 30.000 Vistors are expected for the Show ( at least the organizers hope so).

Maybe you are lucky in Essen, Bochum or Dortmund (all relativly close to DUS)., but donīt expect to find a 5* Hotel there, there arenīt any afaik.

Don't forget the semi finals take place a few days beforehand & the competing nations will be in rehersals over that week so accomodation over the whole of that period will be hard to get.

You won't be lucky in Dortmund (and maybe even Bochum) either. The entire weekend all hotels are fully booked because the local soccer team Borussia Dortmund will probably win the german championship on May 14th. And as you may know - it's all about soccer here in Germany ;-).

Depending on your travel plans you might want to stay in a smaller city within the area. I just checked the rates of the hotels in my hometown which is aproximately one hour away from Dusseldorf by train and there are plenty rooms available for decent prices.
Public transportation is very eficient so it is not a big deal to stay outside the bigger towns.

Thanks all. To avoid the mess the stay was reduced to one night and costs controlled by proper application of hotel points.
