Train from FRA to Essen

Could use a bit of help if the forum would be so kind…
Flying into FRA at roughly 6AM on a Tuesday. Need to get down to Essen from there. Was planning on taking the train but can’t find anything on-line re: schedules, price, etc.
Further, I presume the train station is at FRA, correct?

Thanks in advance for any help!

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/e should sort you out.

There are actually two stations at Frankfurt Airport, but using "Frankfurt(M)Flughafen" as the origin should use the appropriate one. Make sure you remember whether it's Regiobf. or Fernbf. when you choose your train!

You are with FT for more than 5 years and have not found the European Rail Forum? There is a huge sticky on rail travel in Germany answering all questions you might have.

I made this exact round trip a couple of years ago. Departure and return arrival should both be at the Fernbahnhof if you are utilizing the rapid ICE trains (unless the arrival is in the middle of the night, when the Fernbahnhof is closed).

The Fernbahnhof does have a comfortable lounge that you can access if your trip is in 1.klasse. The journey can take as short as 1h 37m, if you take one of the ICE trains with only a few intermediate stops. Discounted fares are available in both 1. and 2. klasse on some (but not all) trains; discounts usually tie you to a specific train, however, so you should purchase a standard fare if you wish to have flexibility.

BTW, you might get a cheaper ticket ... but I don't know how. Maybe another FT can help.

Just checked for a random Tuesday in February and saver fares start at EUR 29. These work like airline tickets - they are only valid on a specific train, and only a limited number of tickets are sold for each train so you need to buy your ticket a few weeks in advance.
